This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I was shocked to hear from them. They usually take income tax returns, now they're saying they might sue. It hasn't been on my credit report,  my wife and I want to purchase a home together, if I make a ''voluntary' payment will it go back on my bureau report? At first they wanted 400$ a month as payment! I have a mother with thrombosis who's unable to work and I help provide for them. I scrape by as it is. How should I proceed? I make 36000 yearly and am in University. What should I do?

I can help you but THe CFW Group no longer provides pro bono services.  There is a fee.

All I can tell you is that CRA's mandate is to get out in the field and bind people up - and recover money using whatever method is at their disposal. Tax debt and non-tax debt are lucrative sources. If there is a written threat that your student loan account will be referred to the justice department then the chances of that are rather high these days. The collectors at CRA don't use a telephone as a weapon like third-party collectors do. Instead, they use they power and internal incentive programs they receive for securing funds for the government.

If you want analysis and advice (and tools, if required) about how to go about a preemptive approach to protect yourself from injury of this nature then we can help you. Cost for this is $115.00 - tax included. All done by telephone and email.

Cheers,
