This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Hello,

I have a collector who will call me at work after I've asked her a couple times not to do so. She leaves messages at my house, but if I don't call her right back she will call me at work. I told her I'm working on trying to come up with some money to pay, but I don't have anything to tell her yet.

She also says that she sent me a letter, but I didn't receive it. I had asked her to send another one, and she says she did...on the 21st of February. I haven't received this yet.

I've been sharp with her on the phone at work becasue I can't talk...no privacy. I will be paying this somehow, but I don't know how yet.

I think her calls are harassing....especially at work. She left me a message on Monday at my house, and called me at work today (wednesday) saying that I refuse to return her call. I hardly think that under three days is "refusal" to return a call.

Anyway, if she would email me she would have a constant dialogue with me. Has anyone been successful in getting any collectors to use email?

If she would use email there would be none of this lost mail nonsense, and everything would be documented for both of us. Totally a win win situation.

Thanks.

If you tell a collector that you are trying to raise moeny, they will call you more than ever before. This is how they motivste and manipulate you. It isa very effective approach that collection agencies train their employees to perform.

Do you want some help with this so you do not have to be so bothered by them?

Have you tried calling the government's complaint line for credit collection agencys. I don't know how much help that will provide you.

I filed a formal complaint, after being threatened with arrest and jail, which is untrue and heavy handed. But it appears the complaint only made the PCA mad, and they sent my file back to the government saying I was uncooperative. So I don't know if you will gain anything by making a complaint, but you do have rights.

That is what happens in a lot of cases. The agencies are given ewither a slapon the wrist for breaking rules (and laws), or are given a pat on the back for a good job done.

They all depend on one another regardless if the authority and policing issues.
