This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I will repost half of what watchdog said as the other half... well it implies watching for profit motive etc towards certain members of this site if ya know what I mean.

Too Much:

Since nobody addressed a question that obviously worries you, let me say this: the police will not come for your stuff. Not now and not when you are on your feet and settled.

So please don't worry about that. This is purely a civil matter, not a criminal one. The police will never be involved. Please don't let the worries overwhelm you, okay?

Read through this forum and do a little homework on the laws regarding debt collection in your province; once you know what the collectors can and can't do, you'll feel a little better able to deal with them. The fact is that you cannot pay them what they demand. All the names they call you, the fear they instill and the guilt they lay on you can't change that, so don't let it keep you tied in knots.

Take Ferren's advice.

Read the quote on Blue's signature line.

You have other things that should be preoccupying you. So relax. Remind yourself that you are not evil or lazy or stupid or negligent.... You are the victim here and you deserve compassion, not abuse.

Heh, no trick to it at all Poly. Don't worry I am sure you are still Mark's favorite. I was on that forum typing my reply just when the post was deleted. I actually received it in my email. Kind of strange to see the post gone just after I replied tho. I am fairly certain it was Islander from the tone and style. Here is the other half - I have no opinion one way or another on it's content:

By Watchdog

...Do not fall into the trap of paying someone to "empower" you or to "remove toxicity" from your life unless you are sure of what you are getting into. Make sure that you have absolute confidence that the course of action recommended is in YOUR best interest and not intended just to line the pockets of a bill collector with a new scam.

Most of the people on this site seem to be good people and I suspect they are not here to take advantage of your vulnerable state. Look around at the posts, determine who is here because they make a killing and who is here without profit as a motive.

And as far as testimonials go, I'd take them all with a grain of salt. Remember whose site it is, who sponsors it and how easy it is for a site administrator to add usernames to the memberlist and write his own testimonials. And to remove anything less than flattering.

I'm not saying that it happens here, but DO ask yourself what motivates the people here. The only thing you can do wrong at this point is to be naive and let someone take advantage of you.

Good luck. We're here to help. Free. Most of us, anyway....

Actually I do have an opinion on second thought... I don't believe the second half of the post was very contructive. If I were a newcomer in need of help I might even find myself becoming rather confused by it. No offense to the author. However the first part was very supportive to too much and was welcome.
