This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Gotta admit Islander....KK did strike me as a little blatant (per my response to read the damn site postings and make up her own mind). My only concerns/questions are these:

1. Going down the road of who is "real" on this site is a slippery slope. How does one prove or disprove that the questions being asked are valid or not? What happens when our judgement call is wrong? I think it is possible to be supportive without suggesting that someone take a certain course of action (I think that's called pandering).

2. If KK was bogus, is this all they have to do to take up their day. What are they going to find out by this course of action.....people can't handle their debt loads? (NO!!!), people are having trouble repaying their debts? (you don't say), CA's sometimes bend or break their own rules in order to obtain repayment? (heavens to betsy), that there is a glut of university educated individuals in this country in comparison to the available job market? (stop the bloody presses), or that the student loan system has an inherent rigidity that hinders the ability of clients to repay their loans? (know I know how Moses felt when he saw the freaking bush).

On the part of myself and only myself (not the best disclaimer in the world but it will do), to all CA's who come onto this site to try and figure things out...........why don't you start working on the problems in your side of the pool before swimming over to ours.

*innocent face*

Islander? Did the words, "eat collection agents" spring from my lips?? Noooooo...I think my words could be interpreted as "having them for dinner!"

Oh...was that vague too? Oh, dear...must work on that...all those great communication skills I gained through my English degree must be disappearing due to lack of use in the job market...

Pigeon: We may not have to do a Scooby Doo reveal if our advice is consistent with CSD.ca policy. No regular poster here advocates illegal or unethical actions, so the worst that happens is that someone like KK wastes her time. And Islander isn't posting privately. If someone doubts Islander. they speak up and provide an alternative POV, just like what happened here. Checks and balances...it usually works out.

And if Islander INSISTS on being Thomas Magnum...oh, bloody hell, let him be Thomas Magnum.

Poly...

I think you meant having them "over" for dinner (far more vague).

That seems appropriate, particularly since a number of collectors take pride in being "hard boiled".

As far as "outing" posters is concerned, I'm not really worried about it. I simply stick to a reasonable set of ethical principals and tell people like Koruptkitten what I told her: I'm not here to give a gradute level seminar on theft.

But when someone is as obvious as they were, It's kinda fun to push their buttons. I suspect that the people who called themselves Koruptkitten will be back in a different disguise; they've probably just gone to find someone who isn't functionally illiterate to pose as a disgruntled ex-student. It's a little hard to pull off that impersonation when you flunked out of grade 3.

And Magnum got to have a gun! Columbo never got to shoot anyone.

What? Me, worry?

KK

Hey, I will probably be 75 when my loans get paid off, but at least I am acting responsible by paying them.

I will be a better person because of it.

Sounds like you made up your mind

What are the reprocussions?

Say if they close the 6 year loophole ?

What then

I would recommend hiring Johnny--hes the best and hes really affordable

he costs me one-eighth of what it cost me to retain a lawyer and he fees are one tenth of what my lawyer charges
