This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Hello,

I have recently been trying to really clean up my credit as I cannot get any loan without a extremely high interest rate. One of the items that was showing up on my credit report both equifax and transunion was the provincial part of my student loan through OSAP. I havent made a payment on this loan since it was sent to collections but it has been receiving money through gst, tax returns etc. When I pulled the report last year it showed date of last activity as 2007/06 and when I applied for a loan through RBC in February of this year they told me it was one of the items hampering me. So today I got both my credit reports with transunion and equifax and it doesnt show on either. From my research I know SOL is a tough question to answer but im wondering what I should do. I know for a fact NCO still has the file but not sure why it isnt reported or showing up. i know it was under the section of equifax with collection accounts but from what Ive heard this type of loan isnt purged from the system after the 6 years.I've called around and haven't been able to receive an answer except that it still has to be paid. Any suggestions or recommendations as to what I should do or whats happening?
FYI I am currently making payments to the federal part of the loan through CRA.

Call CRA and ask to apply for the rehabilitation program that will at least get your federal loan out of collections and sent back to NSLSC
