My loan defaulted in 2009. Had 22,000$ in Federal and 8000$ in provincial. I received a letter on June 13th from NL student aid stating that my loan has defaulted and they require payment. The statute of limitations on student loans is 6 years. I have made payments on the federal portion recently but not the provincial portion ever. Am I safe in ignoring this letter? Section 19.1 in the following link states the limitation period is 6 years. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/S-23/FullText.html" rel="nofollow - http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/S-23/FullText.html

Why did you default? What is your income situation now?
