Hi I am looking for someone who knows the legal laws in collections as I can't seem to find exact information on my situation and someone who knows how collection agencys work as well as when is it to long to collect on a debt?

I had a student loan around 1995. I lived in Ontario at the time. I am not sure if it is the OSAP loan or the federal loan that i owe. Its around $10,000 that I owe.  I have gotten over the years letters from a few different collection agencies demanding payment. In the past few years I have not received anything. I have been recently contacted by phone (this has been their only form of contacting me by this company). They call my cellphone and leave messages ( i do not answer as I am not in a position to pay and will not acknowledge them) They have now called my employee and leave messages for me to call them back and for what. They have also called my work on call phone, which is shared with two other employees. They have been told not to call the number but they still do.

My questions are:
Is there a specific amount of time a loan has gone unpaid that it is no longer collectable?
Are they allowed to call my employer and leave messages?
They have threatend legal action, but the loan is so old and has gone through so many collection agencies, do they generally follow through on this expecially when the loan is so old?
What can be done to make this stop. I have read that you shouldn't admit to the loan. I know that all provinces have different laws with collections, I am in Saskatchewan.
Any advice, inside information on collection agencies or persons in similar situations that can help me please help. It really bothers me that they call my work and I will not speak to them.

The loan may be statute barred.  First piece of advice: do not send any letter to anyone otherwise you may end up acknowledging the debt and losing your statute barred status.

I'd suggest you contact John Leblanc at CFW Group.  He charges fees but he can do an assessment of whether the loan is stats barred and how to get the collections to stop.
