I got a letter last summer from the CRA asking me to contact them regarding my osap loan which was I think was in 2006 when I went to school but that did not work out,
I get letters in the mail asking me to pay a minimum payment and the total is 2900 payment asked to pay are 371,
from my understanding this loan was from 8 years ago or so since then I never made a single payment or talked to anyone ever about this, I had someone call me a few times and I think i just said Im busy now call back later,
the point is I never made any payments and its been 8 years i thought that after 6 years it becomes statute barred ? but obviously its not because I still get letters and every month they add 10$ in interest
so for example May 2013 they asked me for 2880 june they asked for 2890 and then 2900 next month,
I dont want to be in debt anymore so I was looking at options but I really can't pay this, I dont have a job and I get no income , I have not reported income in over 6 years,
I do have some money in the bank and that money has never been touched or pulled out, regardless of the treatning letters from CRA saying that if I dont respond in 15 days they will take actions, ( that was a year ago ) and nothing happened and I even have a credit card from my bank which I use often and no problems.
so what are my options here ? I guess first to find out if its statute barred? but I dont think it is otherwise why am I still getting letters every month with 10$ in interested added every month, is there anything I can for example settle for a 1 payment to end this debt ? I obviously rather have them just cancel this debt and not pay anything so please help me to do this the best way without having to pay it all
