Hi,
I have recently started the repayment of my student loan.  Yet again it would seem that Canada student loans have lost/misplaced/...my documents.  I have sent letters to their office via registered mail and was told that it was signed by someone not in their employment (all information was accurate) and now they claim they did not receive my documentation for the updated terms.

Other issue was that the dates on the letter I received (this one is on me) were off by a month - I have brought both accounts up to date and made the payments on the days I had thought they would be based on my discussion with CSL.  I had been trying to get loan relief and had appealed the decision.  After being denied the second time I thought I had made arrangements to start the payments.  I have recently discovered that my Canadian and Alberta student loans were reported as being 90 and 30 days past due.

This means that my mortgage broker informed me that because of the resulting negative 100 points to my credit score I no longer qualify for a mortgage.  My question...has anyone else had to deal with CSL in trying to resolve this?  Did it work? If you had it to do again what would you have done differently? and any other advice you can offer would be very helpful!!
Lorne

When things get this serious you need to escalate the issue to the Case Management Team.  The lower level workers do not have the authority or knowledge how to solve these things.  ESCALATE THE ISSUE TO A MANAGER.  They need to agree to remove info from Equifax and Transunion.   So many people have been defaulted because of errors like this. Fortunately they seem more likely to resolve these issues than in previous years.

The only solution of your problem is that you can consult with the higher authority of management. Make them known with your situation and also tell them that you have sent them email but you got no response from them. There is no other way out for you. The lower workers can’t help out these types of situations.

In the meantime, while trying to clean that up, maybe see if there are alternatives for getting that mortgage solved.  Maybe shop around - I know a person who was told no by one broker because of debt, but found another broker with different connections who managed to help.  Same if you can go directly to the bank you deal with, if you have been with them a while and had good history then possibly you can explain your situation and see what they have for you.  It could be you end up with a slightly higher mortgage, but might be doable.

Also, who knows, they might have other alternatives from a conventional mortgage that might be worth checking out?  I'm not an expert in this by any means, just thinking outside the box.

Of course, still fight CSL in the meantime.  Know any news reporters who can get this on the 6 oclock news  ;)  things always seem to move faster then.

When dealing with the NSLSC demand that they immediately escalate this issue to the CASE MANAGMENT TEAM.
