New to the site and seeking answer. I have a CSL1 and have just received a letter from Department of Justice for recovery. My income tax is being withheld. The interest is more than the principal. I have not acknowledged this loan in well over 10 years. I am in the province of Nova Scotia (in case this makes a difference). What should I do or not do. I am thinking that the statute of limitations has been reached so I don't want to do anything without advice. I receive GST credits, and am employed (CRA called already) but I have a case for hardship. Any suggestions?

If you are receiving material or calls from the justice department than that is an indicator of an action pending or being scheduled. If the loan is a debt owed to the Nova Scotia government then you need to know that there are no limitations that bind the province from taking action or recovering the money.

If it is Justice Canada then there are limitations in respect of a guaranteed Canada student loan or federal direct.

There is no way to determine if you have a case for removal or reduction due to hardship without a VERY comprehensive examination. Each case has it's own set of unique circumstances, and the governments scrutinize heavily in cases that are not prepared properly.

If you want help we are here, but there are fees.
