This is my story. I went to college back in the late 1190's. My student loans were defaulted and my income tax was deducted every year towards my OSAP debt. I did move to the states for a few years and never heard anything more from them. I am now back in Canada for the past five years. My OSAP loans were through the Royal Bank of Canada and that had fallen off my credit report Nov of 2011. I have filed my taxes for each year and nothing ever mentioned on my tax returns that I still owe money on my student loans. Just recently I applied for a mortgage and there is a collection on there from ARC. I called them and they told me it was an Ontario Student Loan. I called both the OSAP and Canada Revenue who tell me that they don't have any record of me owing them money. When speaking with Canada Revenue I told them that the collection agency was very rude to me and that if I owed any money I would like to pay it to them. They told me that I do not owe them any money. She said that sometimes the ontario portion gets sold off to an outside collection agency and the only way to pay it is to communicate with them. My problem is that when I ask for validity of the account in question they only tell me that it is the ontario student loan portion that I owe and that I need to make the payment today. They have added this debt back to my credit bureau with a different account number and a date of last activity of March 2012. How do I get my credit report fixed? Can they change the name and account number and put it back on my report even after it was on my report for six years and fell off in Nov of 2011. Also how do they put a date of last activity when I have not paid a penny to them and no writtne agreement was ever made to start paying them. Please help, I am trying to get a mortgage and this is interfering. Thanks in advance for any advice you may be able to offer.
