Three years since the "much needed" "fast-tracked" piece of legislation brought forth to help both workers and students, Bill c-55, has received royal assent. I don't know if this is any precedent, and have to wonder why noone is up in arms over this, no student or workers unions, none of the left-leaning political parties, noone here, hardly a soul seems to really care, and it is a little odd... but i disgress.
Let's say if any student debtors have been holding their breathe out there, they have likely beaten a guiness record at the very least, or have expired in the process...
And now it looks as though bill c-62, the amending bill to c-55, itself almost at the point of receiving the Queen's stamp of approval was dropped due to the recent prorogation of the House session by the tories and that means nothing will happen for the foreseeable future as far as reforms go.
My ten years are almost up myself and I believe I have a case for debt discharge but I have to feel for others who dropped out of higher education later than I have and are stuck in a hardship situation for an undetermined amount of years to come. Hang on and try to remain positive is all that I can say to you. This lingering poor credit situation is equivalent to social death in many ways in today's world. Things get rough along the way. Harassment, humiliation, psychological and couple issues, exclusion, etc. the examples fill the archives of this forum to the rim.
When all is said and done, I will keep a very bad memory of the political class in general for its failure to act upon the clear injustices suffered by their citizens in this delaying of the process, whether this translates into lost wages and poorer conditions for workers or makes worse the effects of an unmanageable, crippling debt burden for (ex)-students. No thank yous there, to anyone, not even the well-wishing NDP.
