Ok, if this topic has been covered, I appologize for asking about it again, but I didn't see any sight of it. My question is, how many years can a collection agency atempt to collect a debt from you? I've heard that it can't go beyond six years of the last time they were in contact with you (for example, you move and they have no record of your new address). I know for a fact that they can "shop" you around...one agency tries for a few months to collect, then it bounces to another one and so on...I dealt with one situation like this and paid it up in full...but now I found out that TD Canada Trust wrote off a debt I had with them for about $2000 in 2003. This debt was sent to a collection agency and they've been taging on interest for four years and they want $3200 now...so, if I don't contact them for 10 years, will this get shopped on at the original debt of $2000? Because my other debt that was being shopped around wasn't acruing interest at all and this current one seems to be increasing at a crazy rate...
