My husband and I both have student loan debt federally and provincially(BC) for about 5 years. We can't afford to make payments. We can't even afford our bills, rent or food properly. I am working full time at a low paying job just to try to provide for our son.
I have phoned the financial aid office at my school to try to ask for some help or guidance. All they do is tell you to speak to the creditors and work something out myself. I have spoken to the government, and the creditors and all they say is to start paying. They say they cant do anything to reduce or relieve interest.
Our tax returns are already being taken, i suspect GST will be gone soon as well. We are gaining more and more interest debt at a rate of about $300 each month with no one in sight. Even if we were able to pay that $300 a month, which we're not, that would still not even scratch the principle amount and we would be paying continually for the rest of our lives. Our debt keeps on growing and growing endlessly and I don't know what to do about it.
Can anyone please help us? Does anyone know who to talk to about this situation?
