Hello there
I have been dealing with a collection agency called NCO for my students loans, after they took over my account without warning from CBCL.

Currently I have been paying them for the better part of 2 years now, but have not recieved any written documentation in months about how much I have paid them, or how much exactly my balance owing is.

when they first sent me notification, it was like pulling teeth to get what i owed out of them in writing, and then i got two different amounts!

now, I have changed banks and they need my info, but I am reluctant to give it to them until i recieve full documentation of what i owe, what interest rate i am being charged and how much i have already applied to my outstanding debt.

can anyone give me some helpful tips on how to deal with this company?

I would be up front and honest at first.

I am not sure what to think of NCO just yet, as my dealings with them are not complete. They took over a student loan from AllianceOne and offered me a settlement. I paid the amount of the settlement offer, but have not received any confirmation of account settlement.

I'm still bothered by the whole situation, as I'm not entirely sure why my student loan went into collections in the first place. I am just praying and checking the mail everyday hoping I'll see my "account settled" notice.

I would call and ask them the balance on your account at this time and start from there. In my experience they have been very reasonable - I've never gotten into a battle of words with them. I only hope our otherwise civil interactions work in my favor when it comes to closing my account.

Good luck!

Thanks
I must say that compared to CBCL, NCO has certainly been far better about being polite and working with me.  It just disturbs me to keep giving money to them when i have no real records of what i've paid and how close i am to finishing.

Hey!
If you are dealing with NCO get yourself a very thick skin cause they are rotten to the core. They will be nice to start then they will chew you up and spit you and drain you of your sanity...Believe me I've been there..

I have heard this quite a bit from people about the particular agency. Usually, it is one specific branch though from somewhere out west.
Guess which one ...

The NCO I deal with is in the Alberta region....I never gave them my phone number so the only contact they have has to be a written one.. I had been dealing with them for over 3 years and smiler127 I never received any statements that tells me what I owe and where I am as far as payment.. I made the mistake by calling them and asking and I sort of opened up pandora's box now they are actually sending me statements but I still give them what I can despite of what it says on that statement that I have to fiver them $389 per month YEAH right dream on.....

Dude, NCO are not cool people to deal with.  I get calls everyday, as do my folks, and they are far from friendly!  Like many people stated, they were nice at first, but things changed fast.  They told me that because I have a credit card that I must pay off my remaining balance.  I didn't pay it off, so I have at least one nasty message waiting for me when I get home from work.

One tip dude, check out the collections act and you will find out just how little a collection agency can do.  I have written various letters, and I have saved a number of messages, and plan on filing a harassment suit.

It's super important to remember that you don't have to answer any questions that they ask, and don't!!!  If you are worried about having no records of payments try paying online and at least that way you will have a wire transfer number that can prove that you made a payment.

Good luck with these people, I can't wait until I never have to hear from them again.
