I was SOOO glad I came across this site.  Amazing as to what we all share.  Anyway, I have loans with the RBC and I HATE THEM.  I HATE THEM, HATE THEM.
I have a binder FULL of notices, bul-ony letters, etc from the RBC.  They've lost payments on me too.  At one point, two days before Christmas while I was in interest relief, they debited my account for $650.00.  They said that I called them and told them to do that.  Morons.  It took a year before it was all straightened out.  Of course I was stuck holding the bag on the NSF fee's etc.  Whenever I call them, I get different information.  Recently I found out that I haven't made a payment in 6 months; $700 is owed to a collection agency and I'm not allowed to make payments.  I have to pay the agency in one lump sum.  I am not to send payments to the RBC until the $700 is paid off...BUT...interest and debt is STILL piling up on the rest of the loan.
Make sense?  No..I don't get it either.  Suddenly RBC reps are not permitted to talk to me.  Funny...when I tell them, and send them notices to NOT CALL ME...they do anyway.  As soon as I get pissed enough to talk to them, they are not permitted.
I'm going to  shove forks into my eyes soon.

I have had similar frustrations with Royal Bank. You should check and see what your rights are. As far as I know, collection agencies MUST allow you to make payments. They will all threaten that you must make one lump sum payment, but I don't think that's legal.

OMG.  If you can afford a call recorder from The Source, I'd recommend that you call them, have them identify the date and the rep and have them tell you again that they are refusing payment.  Then, waive that in front of their noses.  Tell 'em that they can take you to court but that you'll share their refusal to take payment with the courts.  They first say you can't record their calls.  You explain that it's a one party rule in Canada and as long as one party is privy to the call's recording, it's completely legal.  It's only the use of the call that's regulated.

Your goal, of course, would be to submit the call as evidence for either a court hearing or a complaint with the provincial regulatory bodies pertaining to Collection Agents.I also recommend that you call your provincial service department and ask where you can find a copy of their Collection Agent's Act.  It will tell you specifically what collection agencies can and can't do.  Keep it beside you so you can tell them when they're breaking the law.

The funny thing is to listen to collection agents after you tell them that you recorded the entire call.  However, in your case, I would recommend that you get a few calls where they are repeatedly refusing payment so that you have a solid case when you you complain be it to the province or to the RBC Ombudsman.

Any judge who believes your multiple recordings where the agent refused payment will probably not hold alot of sympathy with them or their principals...in your case, RBC.It's ironic, I just read RBC's guiding principals that their employees must adhere to.  Their # 1 principal is "Upholding the Law" .  Guess their ombudsman would be thrilled to know what they're doing to you :)

Get your ducks lined up before you go in for it.  Good luck.

I know the feeling, they want $4700 from me, I have offered them payments but nothing is good enough. They want all their money right now or they will sue me, I think that's next week. I keep offering them $100/month and all they want is the full sum of money. I wonder if the collection agents could be any more rude as well. Anyways good luck.

Please explain what they told you and how rude they were. It is good to bring this out into an open auditorium as casaes in numbers create a genuine picture of how bad this really is.
