Hello. Ive never had to deal with a collection agency until tonight. I have been in default on my loans for maybe a year? i am unsure because I ahve psychiatric problems and really have trouble keeping myself together.

Anyway, I have alot of trouble keeping jobs and I ahve applied to disability, which should take a good 8 months. I am currently living on welfare for the first time in my life, which is $535 in Toronto.

SO even though I am UNFIT to work, I have to attempt to work, even if it means only being able to work for a short time before getting fired or quitting when I start to lose it. One day, I get a letter at my address with my name and address, asking me to call a certain number. BIG mistake. I thought it might be a recruiter. It was a phone number set up with call display, just set up to collect my phone number, so these agencies could call me.

Today this guy called me and i told him my address, and I tolld him that I am uable to eat, let alone pay anything. He started telling me what a deadbeat i was and how i never would pay any of it (let alone that I payed on it for about 2 years when I was able...)

Anyway I lost control and bawled for the next two hours and took some tranquilizers and looked up here how to make a complaint. He refused to identify himself but I ahve his phone number. ANy other advice? i am concerned that someone harassing an unstable person might cause them to hurt someone. Including themself or others.

will my complaint mean anything?

Just so people know, this mystery number was 1-888-890-9074.

This may be a "hello line" that collection agencies use to catch people off guard. They answer "Hello" instead of addressing their company name when you call in. They use these telephone lines because they think that everyone goes underground when they go into default with debt.

Collectors always refrain from giving you their name and coordinates when they approach you as you have described. Collectors are well trained on how to avoid getting caught in the event that they stray away from the guidelines and break the rules.

Who is it that you owe? It would be very easy to determine which collection agency is assigned to collect the debt.

The guys at first said the name of the agency it was something with the name toronto in the Title. I live in Toronto now, but I only ever had alberta and Canada student loans. i definately want to make a complaint. My psychiatrist had to scape me off the ceiling after this.

I have the SAME number calling me every day for the past week! It's the 1-888-890-9074 number.

I'm not sure what this number is or who it was that's been callling me because I did not pick up the calls. I looked up the number on google and found this website.

I found it weird that the person did not leave a message when I did not answer those calls.

I do have student loans, but those are OSAP loans. I don't know what this is about or why I'm getting calls from that number. I'm just really confused.

And when you call them back, they don't identify themselves either. It's just a recording saying that nobody is available, so leave your name, number and reason for calling.

i got a call from this number this morning.  I have student loans, but i just finished school a month ago, so I'm not even in repayment status yet.  i've been in the process of applying for a new job, and thought it was them.  The voice message they left was just a dial tone.  I called them back and it was a recording asking me to leave my name and number.  Has anybody figured out if this is a collections agency?

the number is from a collection agency called CollectCorp. If you look far enough under a google search you'll find them. Good Luck with it.

Can anyone answer a question for Me? I am making payments using a U.S. Funds money order and sending the payments, with the SDC tear off coupon from their statement to the Mantane Quebec address. Today I received a statement that shows $5.62 adjustment. I thought great, they are reducing my loan further, but in actuality it is an adjustment increase! Can they do this? It is not interest, but CSL says it might be a charge from the collection agency for fund conversion. Since I refuse to speak with ARC  because of inappropriate proceedings, I don't really know if this is a legitamate charge. How can they add to my student loan balance if it is not interest!!! Any answers are appreciate.

It could have been  a miscalculation in curreny conversion.  Write to them and request a written explanation.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but write Who? I was told that my payments, which are sent directly to the Matane QC address are in fact cashed  directly by Social Development Canada.  Then this information is forwared to ARC.

I am told that balance only information is now provided to me by SDC because, I guess since defaulting, I have the plague!

But if it was a currency conversion error wouldn't it be on SDC's side?

I guess fair is fair, I don't want to contact ARC unless it is absolutely crucial because I KNOW they have the plague.Tongue

Write to Canada Revenue Agency - Non-Tax directorate. All SDC does is accept the payments people make. Accounting is done by Canada Revenue Agency.

No sweat.

The snow was quite deep up in the valley which is where I spent the Easter weekend. It wasn't so bad though when I arrived home. Less snow fell where I live (Bedford).

If you need any other help, let me know.

Cheers,

Johnny

OMG, I have been searching the identity of the person with that phone number (888 8909074)!!!!!!!!!!! It's pissing me off, because that person keeps phone my cell, and when I say, "hello?" they stay on the line for about 4 or 5 seconds, then hang up. This would repeat around 5 times a day, sometimes even more!! It's been going on for like, 5 months now!!!!!!! and when I call back, it only leads to an answering machine!!!!!!!! argh, if anyone can tell me anything, please email at: ekfdmlqlc_@****

Sounds like an automatic dialling machine, much like what telemarketers use. It automatically dials phone numbers, but, when you or your machine answers, if an employee isn't available to take the call, it just goes dead or hangs up.

I believe the phone number left on a call display is a dial-out number, not one you can dial into.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone:

"It's just money" Wink

I just got back from my summer's camping to "decompress" from the stress of teaching another school year (and am re-energizing for the next year).  Remember that the important things in life are your family friends and loved ones, good health and good times.

Take care of your selves first!

If you need to change phone #'s, or sic Johnny on 'em then do it!

Your health and well being should come first.

And if all else fails, then tell them to put the two words "stuffed" and "get" in the right order.

there are web sites you can go to to do reverse phone lookups. My favourite is http://www.411.com - www.411.com .  I tried that number and came up empty handed.  There are other sites that will do 800 number searches but they are fee based. one is http://www.ussearch.com - www.ussearch.com but its not the only one.  If they are calling you on a cell phone it might be worth the $15 to find ut who it is and write a stern but polite letter to the perpetrator.
