well I just got off the phone with Canada Student Service Centre or whatever it is called and the forms and info needed for interest relief has changed.  They no longer need three months of financial (income) information (the month before the application is dated, the month of and the next month) They also no longer need proof of income Ie.pay stubs, cheques etc.  All they want is expected income for the next month so June in my case.  I am so happy about these changes as it wont be so hard to fill out those forms and we are going on vacation in June so we will be mfaking alot less $$$ (lol)

I would DEFINITELY get a second or third opinion on what the person told you!!!!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true!

There's been so much incompetence, this sounds like a newbie who doesnt know the rules... get it in writing from them that this is the case. Otherwise they may come back at you a few months down the road saying you didnt send in the documentation...

Speak to them again and record the call!

You're in for a shock when you receive your forms. If you are applying in June, you need your actual April (no proof), May (proof required) and your estimated June.

I was on EI in May due to an injury, I was told the copies of my payments from the secured web were not sufficient. I discussed this with the EI office they said they would not and are not required by law to provide the National Student Loan Centre with our SIN.

I'm waiting to see if they reject my claim. I included a note saying I would file complaint should they not just accept the information, since it can only be obtained by you because you have a PIN to access it.

Good luck. I had less headaches dealing directly with the CIBC with my student loans.

I came to this site to find information on this exact issue.  I called the NSLSC last week to apply for IR and was told the same thing. I just received my paperwork.

I was told by the service agent at NSLSC that because of new government rules only column 1 is required and to ignore columns 2 and 3.  After opening and looking over the application I am now a little confused.   I thought that they were just using old forms and trying to use them up before issuing the new ones which only show column 1.  BUT the instructions for filling out the form are still asking for columns 1, 2 and 3.

Does any one have more information on this issue?  As someone else stated, this could just be wrong information given out by the CSR. I am wondering if it may be a new rule that HAS NOT come into place yet and the CSR was misinformed about that.

Any thoughts or ideas?  I'll be calling NSLSC tomorrow morning about this just to get a little clarification.  I'll post back after that to update this post.

Thanks

Just a quick update to my previous posting.

I just got off the phone with NSLSC to ask about this new rule that now  only requires Column One to be filled out.

The CSR this time ALSO said that this is now the case.  That because my loans are in good standing only Column One needs to be used and Columns 2 and 3 can be ignored.

I have had great luck with the Interest Relief programme and I have no reason to doubt this new rule.  But in my attached letter I will be making mention of this recent call and that I was assured this is now the rule.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?   I have been lurking here for  a long time and I am sad to see there were no responses to this.  This site is a great resource for SL borrowers....sorry that is in decline.

Just another quick update about the change in the Interest Relief application process.

As of yesterday, my application was approved.   Approved with only filling out column 1.   This time it took quite a bit longer for approval but it did go through with no real issues.

(hope no one minds me posting 3 messages in a row)

I am on EI and I applied for interest relief with copies of my consoladation agreement and prints outs of my EI information. Got approved with no problems.

Absolutely!   I was on pogey a while back when I applied for Interest Relief.   If you get your pogey by cheque then you will automatically get 'pay stubs'.  But if you have direct deposit then you must request to also get printed statements mailed out to you.

They were quite simple to get.  When I knew I was going to apply for IR I just called up the pogey people and asked for printouts of my past payments and to also receive each future statement by mail. The phone call took all of 2 minutes and I received the printouts within 4 days.  And every two weeks after that I got statements sent to me...which arrived the day after my payment.
