sometimes the mail man CAN bring good things...

checked the mail yesterday to discover replies from rick jackson at the ministry of training colleges and universities, the CSLP people, HRDC, the scotiabank GSLAC and the office of the president of scotia bank. (mom went on a little letter writing campaign and i'm happy to report that i'm 4 for 4 for responses)

mr jackson was helpful and provided me with info on who to speak to and gave me a few interesting bits of info on how they review disability application.

the CSLP folks sent my permanent disablilty benefit forms

scotia sent me another app for debt reduction for my ontario student loan and my canada student loan

the office of the president has really come through for me though.  here's an excerpt...

as a gesture of compassion and goodwill, we have agreed to suspend collection activity

they have also provided me with number to call in government to attempt to get my debt reduction application appealed as the guidelines are set by government.  AND they also gave me more info on how to go about applying for both the provincial and federal permanent disability coverage programs.

so while i physically feel like a load of crap emotionally i feel pretty good and a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders knowing the CA's are not going to be harrassing me any time soon.  i see my doc again next week, and i see one specialist at the end of january so here's hoping i can get the paperwork together and make some progress.

i'll keep you all posted on my progress.  thanks to all for the support and encouragement.

Way to go, Mom. You haven't taken a small step, but a giant leap!

Keep fighting and writing!

thanks to all for the encouragement and feedback, mucho appreciated.

i think i'd send that charlie dougall guy who sent me that letter (he's the director of the office of the president of scotia bank for anyone else who deals with scotia) a fruit basket if i could afford it.  he definately made my christmas.  now i have to work on the happy new year end of the deal.

so those of you in a similar situation, never give up and always always always keep trying.  if anyone else needs help drafting a letter or trying to figure out who to write to, post your questions and we will try and help you out.

i still cant believe the bank is trying to help me.  gesh.  maybe bankers arent the anti christ afterall...

thats what my hubby says about me too, hunter.  after five years of keeping quiet and playing nice, i got too fed up of being pushed around.   finding this site was the starting point for me and like johnny says, knowledge is empowerment.  now i dont play so nice and i've got to admit, it feels kind of liberating to have an opinion and a voice.

Are these loans from Ontario, Mom?

So far, i have done a BA (Psychology/Health Studies) and 90% of a BScNursing.

I have a re-curring Muscle Tear injury (from a "Slip & Fall" before i started postsecondary) which needs treatments that i cannot afford (good Physio Clinics are not covered by OHIP in my city -- Kingston, ON).

Now the injury has gone on so long (from being without treatment) that it will not recover.

I was at the 3rd year of my SECOND degree when i went over the heads of the Disability Office person here at school and got the Psycho-educational Testing to find out why I kept failing Statistics(3x) -- despite having very good Math skills.

Hmmm.

It turns out that I have a VERY bad case of ADD/ADHD, Combined Type. (e.g. my "Working Memory" scores were in the 30th Percentile; so, duh, no wonder i wasn't getting straight A's at University, eh?)

(People needs skills, not just pills -- and The ADD/ADHD drugs never fix everything, it seems. In fact, they cause their OWN set of problems, actually. It's trading one set of problems for antoher.)

So here I sit with $100 000 in debt (partly due to taking twice as long with Reduced Courseload s due to my physical injury/pain problems), and partly due to doing two Bachelor's degrees.

I am truly screwed and wonder why i didn't just stay on ODSP (Ontario Disability benefits program).

*sigh*

Any thoughts would be great.

:)

Okay...serves me right for not reading ALL the new posts before answering!!

I apologize for the snarkiness in the other topic, Emma (although I still think non-profit credit counselling agencies bite)...

Mom hopefully will have some insight for you...
