Here is a brief outline of my story: I owe 54,000 half of which is in interest relief an no problem the other half went to collections mistakinly as I applied for interest relief online via email but it was not time stamped according to the collector so it would not be valid for an appeal. Anyway since january I have been hounded up to 5 times a day of which I ignore all calls as I do not work and have no assets thus have nothing to offer. However, I went back to school for an education degree (parents help) and plan on resuming payment and talking to them to set up arrangments the minute I am hired.

With this background here my question and I cannot find an answer that satisfies me on the boards:

My partner and I (not married not anything joint) have just purchased a home and my name is not on title and she was approved for the mortgage without me having to sign or associate my soiled name with anything. ( i am just going to be a renter) (but not really)

1) Is the home safe can they touch her assets at all?

2) Will being with me affect anything in terms of her credit, property, assets.

3) We really want to get married but I am really scared to as I fear this may open her up to lien or asset seizures. Please educate me here as I want to marry.

4) I do want to pay but have no capability at present. I will take full ownership when I get a teaching position which will be easy. Is their anyway of communicating this in a way that works to CA'S.

I talked to a collection agent at CBCL regarding my CSL loan. She told me point-blank that they could not touch my husban'd pay cheque or any of his assets. She stated quite bluntly that the loans were MINE, in MY name, and had nothing to do with him. That made me rest a little easier.

It really does depend on who you talk to....Blue I think you got a nice one.  The agent at CBCL that I spoke to told me she was going to put a lien on my house, which I own with my husband.  Now the CSL is mine, not affiliated with my hubby in any way.....but it's my understanding that they can put a lien on my half of the house.  Which is just fine with me, cause if I ever do sell my house, they are the first people I am going to pay off.  Actually, other than my mortgage, they are the only people left to pay off.

calg........they cannot touch her assets in any way, unless she has signed for your loan.  It's YOUR loan, not HERS.  Even if you get married, if it is in her name, they can't touch it.  As far as wether it will affect her credit.....I don't know.

NO NO AND NO

No, they can't put a lien on property that is joint.
No, they can't touch joint assets.
And no, it will not affect anyone else's credit.

But..........

YES.... they will threaten that they can and will do that. Do not listen to them.
One collection agency called up my brother and asked if he would help me out.

Like, how bad do they really want their commission.
