Can anyone tell me if the NSLC is required to notify you in writing before they send CSLs and/or OSLs to collections?

i believe they are, though whether they do or not seems to be at their discretion if you read through some of the threads...

I think everyone is in the same boat here.  I'll talk to my lawyer about this.  How can their telephone conversations substitute as provable correspondance?  They don't even write down the contents of the discussion properly.

telephone conversations? Geez, I didn't even get that. I had the collection agency calling me less than 2 days after my account had gone to collections. I had to call the NSLC to confirm that my loans had been transferred, and that's all they would tell me. I would have thought that there would have been some notification required.

It happens Mom. In my case six years! They also admitted to me in writing that they had lost my file. Still have the letter.

It was a handy negotiating tool as I was able to have 60% of the interest written off and the collections item actually removed from my credit report!
