Hi,

I am a former 25 years old student from NewBrunswick, in 1999 I went to
Montreal to get my degree in Graphic and Multimedia Design, now that
my school years are over it's time to pay back on my student loan... in
1999 I had a loan from both Federal and Provincial gov. took them both
to my local "Caisse Populaire". in 2001 I recieved a letter that my
provincial loan as been transfered to the CIBC student loan center... since
then I have major problems with my loan. I now have a job in my field I
don't get much money but just what I need to pay the rent and start to
pay back those loans. With my federal student loan wich is still with the
Caisse pop, I have no problem at all, paying my montly fees, interest,
everything. With my loan that as been transfer to the CIBC without my
autorisation... when I finnaly get to contact someone over there after
hours and days of call transfering and emailing, I get told the most
frustrating thing, "well, if you need more assistance simply visit your local
CIBC branch" the thing is we don't even have any branch around here...
the closer one is at about 2h of road. and the service is in English only,
not really easy to deal money in english when you are a French Canadian.

I don't know if NB Gov. will realize someday what a mistake that was to
transfer all acounts over there, if my loan would still be at the Caisse
Populaire with my Federal one I would have no problem at all!!!

CIBC - Edulinx + NB Gov = Students with no futur

If you need to get in contact with someone from Edulinx, call Peter Preyde in their "Customer Response" department at (905) 306-2508 and tell him how much you like their service.  I love it when these guys are so stupid they accidently give me their private office phone numbers.

Spiky! Welcome to the site! It is your right to
DEMAND service in French! if the bank can't/won't
provide you with that option write (en francais) to
HRDC, your MP or MPP. Do you live in NB? I
understand it's the only officially bilingual province in
Canada? Better yet-instead of letting them p#ss you
off write to your local CIBC branch in French anyway!
Since they can't help you in English then try and
frustrate THEM in French!!!!! Bonne chance!

If it's with CIBC it's verry possible they sent it to collections like MCA, NCO, CBCL, ARC, If you contact them they are suppose to provide you with a valide. Make sure you validate the debt with the agency, it's happened where the same account was assigned to 2 different agencie's. I used to work in collections on student loans with cibc, they are really hard to deal with, it's just a question of you hounding them. Also they have verry bad customer service for French Canadiens, I would take the reccomendation of the previouse post.

i would definately insist on all correspondence in french - it is well within your rights.  if necessary, pretend you dont understand english.

good luck
