This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Dazed..

For some reason they only have me defaulted on my Guranteed portion and when i called to complain they were happy to accept my $50 checks with what they still had.. so i dunno i am gonna pay off the piece that is in the COllection agency TCR  and then once i get this loan from my relative paid and hubbys credit should be in good standing.. Maybe see about negotiating  something with my  larger student loans 11 thousand and 12 thousand..and neither of these are guranteed so once the time comes and i can hopefully get cash together again i will deal with them.. For now they are leavig me alone with there $50 checks so there happy and I am happy.. :)  Plus getting this down  and paying off one of hubbys he will still have a $5000 one at RBC but he makes his regular payments with them and is in good standing.. so that should help him.. I am going to get him to consult with Johnny on getting his loan lowered or at least to see what the amount such a service would cost him because as the name states we are strapped4 cash with 3 kiddies and one of them just turned 3 months.. we just want to get this student loan nightmare behind us.. as quick as possible.. and i am sure down the road i will be able to negotiate with RBC because they have already tried with me but i didnt have the funds to do it.. but that will be another story in a  few years time lol..

Good luck, although it just doesn't seem right to me that HRDC can stump you with a default while on MatEI...if your hubby is going to talk to Johnny maybe ask him about this too.  It would be a shame to see your credit dive just because of that.

THere reply to me was that they contacted me and i said i was unable to pay at the time.. However what i said was that i was on bedrest ( they woke me up) and that i was in no state to talk to them at the moment and that at the time my income was not enough to make a payment however once i started to recieve EI i would be more than happy to send them there $50 checks..which i have done now that i have healed and am no longer physically ill to the state of being bedridden.. However they had already sent it to HRDC who sent it to Collections..   but i have found a way to get the money to pay it off and interest free at that so i suppose it is a good thing.. also got enough to settle one of my husbands so at least we will have these 2 gone in approximatley 18 months and i wont have any worried of GST ot income tax garnishments and once these are gone i can put some more money on the remaining ones..  heres hoping..
