This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

The following is a testimonial for John LeBlanc

After graduating from a MA program abroad in '99, I lost my job in '02 and fell behind in my payments. I was not eligible for interest relief as I was residing outside Canada at the time. I went into default in about 6 months.

Soon after the calls started to come. I was threatened with everything you can imagine by the collection agencies; seizure of passport, lawsuits, you name it. I remember one phone call where the agent said I was a deadbeat for not paying and the proof was that I had a cell phone (which was cheaper than having a land line....but details...details).

Anyway, I came back to Canada in late '04 and felt like I was at the bottom of a pit. 36, What little money I had was literally stashed under my mattress as the calls and letters said that my bank account was going to be garnished. Collection agents wanted the entire (30K) loan now. No exceptions. I was pretty freaked out and depressed. I had never been in debt in my life and had gotten my BA without loans. Thank god at the time I was on my own and had no kids to support and no wife/g'friend to be a burden to.

By '06 I managed to scrape together enough cash through various means to hire John. I had previously reviewed this discussion board, saw all the testimonials and knew that I had to get someone who knew what he was doing to help out.

Best money I have ever spent. Period. John was my advocate and he faced the collection agencies down with tenacity and professionalism. The calls became less frequent and peace came back to my life. That alone was worth what I paid him.

John then spelled out for me what my options were. They were good but I needed a lot of time to get my ducks in a row...work on getting decent employment, etc. John was patient and never pressured me to act. By the winter of 2011 I was ready to act and retained John to do a Limitation Study and have my loan statute barred.

This last weekend, John removed a $47K albatross (the original loan plus interest) that has been hanging around my neck for the better part of 10 years. I now have a wife and 2 young kids (a lot has happened in the interim) and can work toward a better future for my family.

I'll put it bluntly: If you are in trouble; hire John. Having a professional, ethical and talented advocate in your corner will help in so many ways. He will plot a path out of the hell you have found yourself in and provide you with the promise of a better day.

All the best John!
