This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I recently heard that you can get a loan removed from your record if you seek a lawyer after 10 years or more. Can someone please tell me if this is true and if so how to go about taking action to have my loan removed from my records.

I currently have an outstanding loan that has not been acknowledged or paid in about 10-12 years and would like to have this removed.

thanks

Can you provide more info as to why you did not pay the loan? That will be a requirement for help here. If you had the income and did not pay it, then no help is available here.  If you had difficulties and could not pay thats a different story so could you please qualify why you did not pay....

Thanks for the reply..

At the time I was unemployed and unable to pay the loan back.. Also was placed into collections while making payments and got harrased on a regular basis to make payments. I have proof that I was placed into collections at the time and that it was not warranted when this happend as payments were in fact getting made direct from my bank account.

I had suggested at the time that I wanted to go to court to fight the case but was refused and nobody took me to court as all folks involved at the time was aware I was collecting evidence against them to build a case.

So here we are now 10-12 years later and still have not paid a dime into the loan and still refuse to do so as I feel I am due the money for hardship.. My credit rating at this time is not a question as all credit companies have been given proof that I was placed into collections without warrant.

Now comes the fact that I would like to close this case once and for all and be done with it as it does appear in my records and I feel it is time to get it removed and at the same time I still feel that I should not pay a dime as I am due this money based on all the issues that I had to face with the bank and collection agents.

I understand.  Best to talk to John Leblanc at CFWGroup.  The 10 years you were referrring to was older bankruptcy laws... you had to be out of school for 10 years to be considered for having your loans discharged in bankruptcy.  That has been changed to 7 years now.

Bankruptcy is not a good thing... if you want to clear this up I suggest you contact John Leblanc at CFW Group.   Your loans might be stats barred. John can help you with investigating this... his fees are worth the peace of mind and not accidentally acknowledging the debt and restarting the stats barred clock.

Welcome to the site! Hope you find help here.
