This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Hello,

I am currently in bankruptcy (about 9 months in), and have another 12 months to go, it was deemed 21 months was my term.

I almost survived, been out of school for a little over 9 years....

2 questions I hope someone can answer for me. If the first is what I hope then the second is meaningless...

Now that the changes have come into force, and I am past the 7 years ( 9 years + as of this date ) and at the time of my filing for bankruptcy over 8.5 years can my student loans be included?

Before my bankruptcy is completed I will have been out of school for 10 years, is it possible to include the student loans at this time?

Going bankrupt is not a proud moment in my life, but now that it has unfortunately happened, it would be nice to get rid of as much as possible to get that " fresh start".

Thank you for you time and support.

You will have to talk with your trustee and see what he/she says. Get things in writing also. That business is a little dangerous to consumers and their well being.

Thank you for the advice of getting things in writing...

I am unclear on what you mean by the above quote?

Am I looking forward to some troubles which I am unaware of?

Having to declare bankruptcy felt bad enough.

If PM's are a better way to communicate by all means please do.
