This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience applying for government work after or during a consumer proposal? Specifically in the cultural sector, but any experiences would be helpful. Even more specifically if anyone has been looking in the museum sector? Thanks.

Johnny, I am not sure what you are asking exactly. Im taking a program right now preparing for work in the museum field, I was just looking for any possible information regarding how a consumer proposal on my credit history will impact this, thanks.

I was asking if you were going to be applying for a federal position with CIC. A consumer proposal is a blemish, yes. However, I am unsure how it will affect you. You can cold call tyo find out if it will though. Just call the department's HR group and ask them.

I know this is an old post but saw and thought I'd post. I have declared bankruptcy and defaulted on student loans in the past. I started work for the federal gov in 2008 for corrections Canada and there was a reliablity check which i had no problems with. I apply for another job with service canada and had an "enhanced reliablity check" as I deal with public funds... I did have some minor problems.

What happens you will get a call from a government worker who askes you questions about your past. In my case the lady was off sick for a month and my new employer was wonder why my check which normally took 3 days was taking a month. I told my employer straight up I had had some financial troubles in the past and that was holding it up... but in hindsight I didn't need to. Everything went through and all was fine. BUT student loans did track me down through the enhanced reliablity check... And that's when I called Johnny.
