This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I had NCO's toll free number in Montreal - but problem is I can't contact them too easily during working hours - I am so bogged down - appointments, teaching, and being in a different time zone.
But thanks for the info

advisor

the cpp disability thing can be a nightmare to navigate, believe me, i speak from experience here.  having your doctor on board does not guarantee they will approve you.  if denied there is always room to appeal.  i believe in my internet roamings i have seen info on people on social assistance being able to prove extreme hardship and getting part if not all of their loans forgiven.  i have also heard of things being done retroactively so there is hope.  feel free to email me privately so we dont waste space here, i will help in any way i can.

I probably missed something, but do not know how to email you privately.
I have heard it is not easy to get a disability. But again,I would certainly appreciate any/all information on this type of thing too because I know it is going to be a pending problamatic situation that I need to address with this student.

and John I think it is 11 pm in Halifax John, and I am still at work (overtime) but we have a major time differance I am sure so I sleep when you are working. What are you Halifax hours of operation?

To all the REAL people,

Thank you for your responses !!!!  I have been on here reading for about an hour and a half..........by golly the board has been busy.

Okay....okay there are real people.......I should not have been on here last night......I was in a mood... I should have just logged off like a good girl instead of letting myself get worked up.

To say the least I did think about it until all hours.....then all day.

I even fell asleep at the dentist office today....  I guess there are times that I just need to shut it down... and not respond....though it was nice to sleep at the dentist !!!!!  Yep finally fixing the teeth well what is left of them....anyhow.  As I sit at the dentist I wonder how many other people out there that have lived in poverty.... have evidence like mine???  Just a thought!

Anyways............I know that you have offered help Johnny, and yes Troy I read your post too !!  I have also posted that out of respect for your profession I am unable to call !!!  When I am in a position too, then I will, unless in the meantime I happen to figure it out.

Like I have posted in the past..........I am not looking to dodge these debts, I am out for justice, because I have been wronged in a number of ways.(whatever shape that takes....it will)  If it happens to take longer than needed to get there....then that is a part of my process and destiny in all of this.  When it gets worked out..... if it ever gets worked out... I want it to be the real deal.  Something that I can understand..... and explained to me so that I can understand it.  I am tired of walking around miffed about it all.  You need to remember that I am just learning that I can actually do something about all this, except cry !!

Before I go off on a tangent........I will end it here.

Thanks again....nice to see there are real people here.

 Advisor,

I am still here and there. I have overseas clients that I have to attend to tonight so it is a late night, of course.

Emails are no longer displayed on the profile... the emails were being used to harass one or two people so I removed the display... if you need to get in touch with each other, send me an email and I'll forward a request and then the two of you can chat...
