This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

HI,
I went to Uni from 94-97.  got $26 600 of OSAP (I think).  Have never paid a dime on it. I believe i was initiallly contacted, sent off some interest relief papers. moved. never heard from them again.  and have lived basically on the poverty line since i left school.  They have for many years now taken my GST and Income tax returns for my loan.  I got credit cards a few years ago, and she did a credit check at the time and came back saying I had No credit at all, so I guess the osap wasnt on there.
I am  FINALLY in a position where I am now considering paying this off, as I hate having it hanging over my head.  However I dont know how to find out how much I owe, and I dont want trigger anything and suddenly start getting harassed by a collection agency. plus im imagining that 13yrs of interest on 26k is going to make what i owe enough to buy a house.  I do not want to stay in the living situation I am in (that is allowing me to save money) for the next 7yrs, which is what im fearing if I attempt to pay this loan.
how do I found out how much I owe, so i can determine if it is realistic for me to pay it off?  Can I pay off the part that income tax is taking but not the other part?  Will paying that part make the other part come after me?

I got a student loan in 1995 and i have never made a payment to it.  But i did get the government to forgive both the Ontario and Federal because of my disability.  But now the bank want money

questions
isnt that part of the Ontario loan ?
Would my debt be not-collectible under the statute of limitations, as it's been 15 years?
