Since a number of crucial posts have been deleted I am not really sure what has prompted all this hostility. I do detect an attempt now to make some fictitious dispute with Johnny the cause for the expulsion. Java you are craftily shifting the referent to suggest that what is in jeopardy is our access to “truth” which is the service that you provide to this forum.
The truth is Java that I can pick up a phone and call Johnny. Anyone who visits this site has the same privilege and access. Johnny is very open about his past. He also answers whatever criticism is posted here on this site. He is not afraid of the truth. He does have a business and he has posted a package outlining his services and fees. But he also does a lot of pro bono work. Johnny is totally transparent and our access to the truth will never be in jeopardy if there is transparency.
Transparency is essential in a democracy as it provides the basis for the checks and balances that are necessary to ensure that citizens’ rights are not being undermined. There is no transparency in the Canada Student Loan system or HRDC or the department at Justice charged with pursuing defaulted borrowers. So yes we are in a battle here to uncover the truth. What is the real reason that statements of account are not regularly sent out? Doe the lack of accountability encourage theft and is this what has happened to all the money that the Auditor General noted is missing at HRDC? There is a relationship between truth and transparency.
As Java you encouraged people to Google you and you provided your name in your email address so that this was possible. I discovered that you had been a bill collector and that you seemed to still be offering something related to this activity on numerous web sites. Also as Islander you have encouraged posters here to post the identities of collection agents on the web. You also have a particularly low regard for someone in this line of work and consider them less than human. Redemption or compassion does not factor into your assessment of collection agents. Why should I exempt you from the same scrutiny that you demand be imposed on others? Your associated with the collection industry is rather vague. Are we not entitled to know this considering you are offering advice?
I have nothing against debt collectors if they obey the law. I also have nothing against people earning a living. Java you have said that you are offering some kind of alternative to student loan borrowers. What kind of service might this be? Why don’t you just hang your shingle and offer the service? Considering how adept you are at creating aliases do you not think it might make people a little nervous to simple entrust their lives to one of your many identities? You are not transparent and so we are left to wonder what truth is being revealed. Or are we being duped yet again?
Cheers

Mark,
You have every right to deal with a member of this site any way you choose and you should. The fact that Islander is writing you on the side and saying those things is disturbing. With this added info I believe you have done the right thing. Thats not to say I think Misty should stay. She is accountable for her actions and certainly did not need to go into the ditch behind Islander.
Beachcomber,
Javaman posted his own personal information and requested that we should Google him. There was no privacy breached by Mark.

Wow
I am stunned and never realized.
Good Luck Mark it is unfair and unacceptable that you are being harassed in such a way.
Islander..if you feel there are things you need to say/post/ect perhaps creating your own message board might be a plan?
I am sorry this is causing such a pain for you Mark and please don't close the site down as it does create a safe secure place for so many of us!

The TRUTH, Kat is that a member called Javaman posted a suggestion that you Google him if you wanted info. He found that was being abused and quit the forum. He asked Mark to eliminate his information from the site to protect his privacy.
Later, Islander joined. There are a lot of people who drew the conclusion that they are (were?) the same person. Islander never acknowledged that. You'd have to be a moron or just a vicious little prick not to realise that if they WERE the same person, Islander clearly wanted to retain his anonymity and privacy.
Mark betrayed that. And he betrayed it to the press. That's what the out of-context "quotes" were all about.
Before you start, I'm not either of them. (or Zafire either for that matter) Yes, I chose my handle out of respect for what I saw he was doing here. I am a woman and I am a fan of Islander's. We communicate privately.
I should let you know that where we see things differently is that he has repeatedly asked me to tone down my anger and to adjust my plans for revenge against the system into plans for revamping the system.
I have seen your side and you make me ill. With very few exceptions you have zero compassion, gratitude, loyalty or even brains.
I repeat my suggestion that you all get bent.

Not true at all Mr.Beachcomber alias java man, alias islander, and now beachcomber. The information given to the press was a post that was public info on this site. I never betrayed you... No personal info was given out.
The fact that you know this confidential history confirms that you are indeed java man, islander, and now beachcomber.
And again, beachcomber, you violate the rules, calling people names, i mean really mean names... and therefore beachcomber, as the rules state and for which you clicked the accept button... the post has been edited, actually, I will leave this post here as a testimony to your true nature.... but your membership is being made inactive. AND post editing has been disabled.
Hopefully "End of story" but I somehow doubt it.
PS: its easy to tell when you are on the site. At least this time you remembered to change your default font. But you are always on the site between say 10pm vancouver time and 6 am vancover time!

A final note to islander, javaman, beachcomber.
I find it ironic that your hatred is so deeply coming out when you are living in a place of such compassion and caring, in the cradle of catastrophe and buddhism which has touched the hearts of so many world wide.
You have obviously been through some severe trauma. Your posts recently took a very sharp turn. I will state and abide by what I have always told you - If you agree to the rules, and can learn to post kindness you will always be welcome here.
Despite all the difficulties, I ask that no member on CSD harbour ill feelings towards this person, named javaman,Islander/beachcomber.
Beachcomber, you are being presented with an opportunity to go to a buddhist temple and ask some deep questions and ask for help. Please do that. All you have to do is ask. From your own messages to me, the kindness you find in the part of the world you are in is magnificent. But the message you sent to me after the tsunami of kindness and compassion is exact opposite to the postings in the last few days.
No hard feelings. I've been in the deepest darkest place of denial, pain and hatred. I was fortunate that I was shown the way out of hatred, but I will not tolerate hatred of anyone on this site and that includes you. I have to set some boundaries around that, but if you can show that same compassion that has been within you for the last four months of great postings without any hatred, then you will always be welcome back.
It is time to look inside yourself at your hatred and you are in the best part of the world to do just that.. Look at the people around you.... take some lessons from them. What you are doing now is isnt working. It isnt helping others. It isnt helping yourself.
It will take courage to do what I have asked. Lets all hold Islander in our thoughts and prayers and remember that in every individual is a spark of good, even if it is clouded over with anger and hatred. You have so much potential Islander, its time to work on your self and turn things around...
Please come back in a few months after a sojourn at a buddhist temple. You know deep down that what I am suggesting is necessary.

Beachcomber misrepresents what occurred when Java Man encouraged posters to this site to check out his publication record by googling his email address in which he used his real name. I googled his addy and found his publications which consisted mainly of short opinion pieces to Asian papers. I also found a number of on-line resumes where he listed a wide range of professions he had been involved in including bill collection and legal services. He also claimed to be a lawyer and a private investigator and stated his interests as “Anything and everything. Whatcha got?” He also mentioned that he had been published in Playboy and many other magazines.
It wasn’t that I was trying to pry but I was curious as Java Man described an easy lifestyle full of servants, exotic vacations and accessible wealth. I googled different keyword combinations looking for other publications which might contain his work and found a court case that involved Java Man and a collection agency that he owned in British Columbia. The court found that Java man was not allowed to represent clients in court as he did not have the proper qualifications to practise law. This case has now been used as case law in a number of other cases in Canada.
Much of what I uncovered did not make sense to me when I tried to relate his past history as an owner of a collection agency to his current situation as a victim of the same industry. It seemed that an individual, who had the audacity to stand before a judge and argue that he was just as qualified as a lawyer to handle certain cases, had enough legal knowledge and acumen to avoid being taken advantage of by collection agents or HRDC. Also it seemed that Java Man was a person who could not easily be intimidated and he would get the best of any collection agent who tried. So I asked him how someone with all these resources at his disposal could end up in a legal predicament that was much worse than mine.
This is what Beachcomber says constitutes abuse.
I imagine that if I say I have a hard time believing that java man/islander and beachcomber are all different people that this as well is abuse.
It’s all nonsense really and the only thing that ever made any of it believable was the insistence and the arrogance of the mysterious poster making these ludicrous claims.

For the record.
I do support Islander/Java Man in many aspects.
I think he added a lot to this site. I also support Marks right
to do what he wants with his time and money. For the rest of us,
this is a release and a way to meet people, but in the end, its not
something that we have to invest anything other than our time and
emotions, and thats if we choose. For the administrater of a site
like this, there is MORE time, probably more emotion, and definately
cost and effort. I simply recognise and salute the fact that he
is doing this.
Even if what you say were true and this were just a schill for CFW...so
what? It brings people together, gets ideas in the open, allows
people to vent, and has helped form numerous lasting friendships, from
what I;ve seen. This is not even taking into account anything
usefull the CFW may or may not actually have done!!! This site
has been worth while just for that. End of story.
Im note even addressing anything that may have happend off the board cause I dont know anything about it.
Beachcomber...friend of Java or whatever you are....to just walk onto
this site and start blasting people's motives et. al...and NOT expect a
bit of backlash...well...think about that for a sec.
Honestly.
What ever the motives of the management of the site, the majority of
people here are here to exchange Ideas, vent frustration and SUPPORT
OTHERS IN THEIR SITUATION. And they do. THere is diolouge,
and disagreement! Thats life. Almost all long time posters have
disagreed with someone here. Java did it, I've done it..and if
you want to do it fine..but you walk in and blast everyone for not
blindly supporting all of someones ideas, and say that you are nailing
them for blindly supporting all of someone elses Ideas....again..think
about that for a sec..honestly.

I might add that I have no doubt that if another person or service proved to Mark that they could help us with our student loan problems, there would be a link to that too.
So far, only Johnny has proven himself and his services...and that was only after a baptism of fire, trust me!!!!

Holy Crap! What the hell is going on here?
This all started because someone from "the other side" posted??
I could understand Islander's frustration, but suggesting that Misty be a "loan shark or prostitute" is offensive, not matter who Misty is or where she worked. That's uncalled for and I don't see in any of Misty's posts anything remotely that offensive. I don't know what her delated post was, but I'm sure she was reacting to Islander's post and she did apologize in another post. Sorry Islander/Beachcomber, but man, that was kinda low.
Look, I'm with all of you guys, and I have horror stories as well. I know that there are lurkers who are trying to stir up trouble on the forum (collectors and the like), but can't we just give someone the benefit of the doubt first? I do agree with Misty that CIBC SUCKS. I think it's important to have an insider's view on the whole process, it could be a great complement to Johnny's knowledge and experience.
I know this site is much better than that. It's informative and has some really great threads. If I was new to this site and joined to get help and info about my student loan crisis, and this tread was the first one I read, I wouldn't come back.

Well, I am glad Mark got it off his chest. But there was a whole-hearted earnestness to Islander that can't be dismissed regardless of his verbal abuse. Why he is as paranoid as he is I will likely never know despite the claims made in this thread. However, considering his past (his wife committing suicide after being hounded by collectors over his debt and then his consequent breakdown) and now his present situation in Indonesia it does not surprise me. This kind of tortue has got to leave one open and responsive to all sorts of negativity in the world. Good-bye Islander.

Um, well, if it's not too late to address the excuses for incompetence that the edulink guy gave, I'd like to mention that I work for a call centre and if we made mistakes like that for any reason we'd all either be pulled off the phone for more training or fired. You guys aren't supposed to be some crap tele-sales rep. Your field is specialized, your job is clear, and it's not getting done. Can you possible imagine it being accepted (whatever the reason) if emergency police lines suffered that level of failure? Or Hospital data was lost in that manner? The problem with organizations like Edulink is complacency and the feeling that it's ok to be crap because they are not doing an important job and they can get by and won't be fired for their failure. Well, I think it's high time our society said that it is not acceptable and high time we demanded accountability and service. Our student loans cannot be equated with fast food, our lives hang on them. Regardless of turn over it should be the responsibility of the company to ensure anyone on a phone is trained.

Mark: Just wanted to put my two cents in ... (and why not? everyone else has ... ). I am disappointed to the extreme in Islander's recent posts --- he/she has usually had interesting, informative things to say. However, there is absolutely no reason that you should be expected to put up with any kind of abuse and harassment, which is what those emails constitute. I am concerned, actually, that Islander seems to be delusional and somewhat divorced from reality. This is not the first time that I've seen an ordinarily rational person on a forum suddenly degenerate into a ranting, hostile individual. Maybe things got too much for him/her --- and, just given the style of writing, Java/Islander/Beachcomber certainly seem to me to be the same person to me as well.
Anyway, didn't mean to go on here. What I wanted to get at is that I hope, Mark, you aren't letting one (or two) people spoil what you have set out to do here. There are an awful lot of us who appreciate immensely the opportunity to participate in this site, and who applaud and admire your efforts.
This is your site, you can toss anyone you feel like, and nobody here really even has the right to question you on that ---- even though you do explain.
Keep the faith! We're all behind ya ....
