This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Hi, the very short version of my question is, will the restrictions placed on me by StudentAid BC affect my ability to get student loan through OSAP? Here's the longer version:

I have been taking out student loans through BC for the last two years, and they just notified me that I will be denied further funding because I've had two withdrawals. I had one withdrawal 7 years ago during my first degree due to personal issues, and I recently withdrew from school because I decided I didn't need a second degree to apply to grad school, which was why I went back to school in the first place. Since I did it during the first week of school and was able to get full refund and return all the funding to Canada Student Loan, I thought it would not affect my eligibility to get further funding as I mistakenly believed that it was more like a cancellation. Imagine my surprise when I got a letter saying I'm no longer eligible for student loan! I have talked to several people from StudentAid BC, none of whom was sympathetic or very helpful. I was told that all I can do at this point is to make an official appeal, which does not guarantee an overturn of the decision.

This really stresses me out because I'm in the process of applying to grad school and will need funding in order to attend the program next year. However, I just realized that I am actually an Ontario resident and eligible for OSAP (because of my husband's status). I will most likely apply for OSAP for grad school. What I'm wondering is if StudentAid BC's decision stands after my appeal, will that also affect my ability to get OSAP? I know every province has their own policies, and I am in good standing with Canada Student Loan and will not owe them any overaward money after the school has processed the refund. I guess I'm grasping at straws at this point because I did not expect to have to deal with this when I made the decision to withdraw early in September and now facing the possibility of not being able to get more funding.

Thank you for reading, and I'd appreciate any help.
