Topic: In desprate need of help! Posted: 08/June/2012 at 12:52am |
Since graduating college my student loans provincial and federal have been on repayment assistance. I apply to Resolve and fill out the application and ALWAYS, ALWAYS both loans have gone into repayment assistance together.
Yesterday I check the mail and there is a letter from the Nova Scotia goverment saying my provincial loan has gone to collections (national one is in repayment assistance). I never got a phone call to say this was happenening. I called the # and spoke to a very rude lady in charge of my account. Told her how I apply for repayment assistance and they have ALWAYS gone in together and couldn't understand why this one was in collections. She proceeded to tell me that they will take my GST, TAX refund and in the process of going through the courts and eventually garnish my wages. I am a single mother of 2 on EI as I am on maternity leave. Can they garnish my EI? I am so stressed. I asked her "you are going to garnish from my EI which is already 55% of my wage?" her response "This is your fault and this is Tax payers money. Don't even get started on the tax payers money topic because my blood pressure will rise.
I called Resolve to find out why it didn't go into repayment assistance and they said they wanted a $50 payment before it would be approved, but I did not know nor had a time frame to pay this. Lady spoke to was very nice said she would send it into be reviewed because of this and that I would hear a response within 5 business days.
All in all I want to know that if this gets reviewed and they deny it can the N.S goverment garnish my EI? I barely make ends meet now.

It was Christina Warren. She was very rude. I was balling my eyes out and almost ready to vomit at the thought of being homeless if they garnish my EI. She had no cares in the world. She said "How long do you expect not to pay?" I said "How dare you say anything to me about my situation, as you do not live my life."

The thing about the Nova Scotia government's student loan collection department within service Nova Scotia is that many of them are right out of the third-party collection agencies in Halifax that either bellied up or centralized out. THird party collectors are the most aggressive ones because at one point they all depended on commission earnings to survive. With the government they reciever a decent salary and are not on a commission structure, but they think and act as if though they are still working for a collection agency. That is bad for government image but evidently the NS govenrtment doesn't seem to care much about it or student loan borrowers for that matter. They are not going to garnish your EI and if any of the bunch there says otherwise it is crazy talk. If you demonstrait good faith and if there is a hardship that prevents you from paying the loan simply demonstrate it. If you continue to get harsh treatment then that is third-party collectorish behavior. I have a lot of clients who are in the same circle you are caught in here with that collection department. They see CFW Group as their nemesis because we both educate and provide an intervention service for people that enjoy beating up on. Threatening all that trash towards you is nothing more than beating in my opinion. They have even tried to beat me up a few times and have gone to great lengths to try to injur me. They feel as if though they are above the law and there will soon come a time where the law catches up to them, and other governemnt departments that are corrupt. Johnny

You don't worry about what Ms. Warren is threatening against you. Your EI will not be garnished and if that is what she told you, it will either be denied when confronted about it - or simply ignored should any demand for accountability in writing come of ity. That is how that system operates. I can help you here if you need it. First thing you shoudl do is write to their director, Sharon Glazebrook, and the Minister directly and file a complaint first and foremost. Detail exactly what you were threatened with, state your intentions, and what your harship is/was that prevented you from paying it. If there is an element of fear towards the situation past and current, put it in there. Let them see first hand what kind of damage they are actually doing. A government should not condone nor tolerate that behavior at all. Contact me privately and I will get you started on this and help you out. Johnny

One a different note, this recent article will clearly demonstrate how the Nova Scotia government has the power and willingness to use that power to destroy someone. This brings back the words echoed by Justice Gomery during the Canadian Sponsorship Scandal. He cited that 95% of the civil service is corrupt in this country given the magnitude of cover ups, scandalous acts, and worse things. This is one man in this province who is disabled and the Nova Scotia has virtually given him a choice that ultimately violates what the Conservative government promotes.

Resolve brought it back because they did not contact me about the $50 they wanted so that they could continue my repayment assistance just like my national one, nor was there a deadline. I must say their response was quick. I just contacted them yesterday after getting off the phone with CHristine Warren. This got them to bring the loan back. It is sad I had to endure this great deal of stress because of one lil mistake. To get the loan back to Resolve they still want the $50 by June 21st or agree to add this to the loan. GO FIGURE???? All of this could have been avoided.
Now when is the best time to contact you? Mon-Fri?
