This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Hello.

My name is Claude Adams and I'm a producer with the national Global TV newsmagazine show 16x9 . . . We are researching a story on student indebtedness in Canada and we're looking for 2 or 3 compelling stories that we can use to illustrate the problem: how a debt load has harmed your job prospects, serious emotional problems it has caused, that kind of thing . . . We will likely want to do on-camera interviews with students who have strong personal stories to tell. We may be prepared to disguise your identity if absolutely necessary, but we would prefer not to. We would also request documentation to validate any information.

It would be very wise to disguise because of the questionable attitudes and behaviors of some debt recovery agents and groups. This is why most people shy away from these sorts of activities.
Solve Student Debt specializes in solutions for students and graduates in student loan default, and those at risk of defaulting.

hi, i really need help, and maybe if i get my story out there, maybe i can get some help.  I've had student loans debt since i was 18.  I completed college and received a diploma.  By the age of 22 i had a factory job, which left me emotionally unstable, so i then again, went to a school in toronto for music arts and used student loans to help pay for it, after the first month, i became depressed, i was far away from home and i found the course to be very difficult to handle, within 3 months i dropped out of the school, which put one "x" mark in my loans.  I returned home  and managed to find a job in a career in computers, which i did enjoy, however the place i was employed at i found to be very emotionally depressing, which lead me to attending school in ottawa, again barrowing student loans, within 3 months i became emotionally unstable again and only completed one semester, which i then took a general course in college for 1 semester as well.  Managed to find a part time job in sales which lead to a full time job in computers.  That job lasted 2 years, before i found my emotional state getting worse, i jumped from job to job, maybe lasting 6 months at a time.  Finally fed up i went to seek help for why i just can't seem to keep a job, or continue with school, it was later found this year that i was diagnosed with bipolar 2.  I also found that my student loans was now in collections.  I have no money to pay them, i can't even pay my rent.  Bipolar tends to affect spending as well as alcohol use, i constantly receive letters in the mail reminding me of how much is needed to be paid and the date in which its due  by.  Having this disorder plus the stresses of student loan debt is taking it's toll on me.  I need help i just need help, i am sure there are others with this issue, no one understands just how stressful it is to go through, i have to pay my rent, bus, plus my medication.  I am willing to have my story told, i just hope there is someone out there who can help us all out with student loan debt.

Sincerely Vi
