This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I have previously had my NB integrated SL go in to default and I went through the rehabilitation program to get my loan back in "good standing".

I was wondering if anyone out there knows if I would be eligible for a new full time student loan after going through this process.

As far as the criteria for eligibility is concerned, I meet everything, I am over 22 but have had a student loan before so a credit check wouldnt be needed, and everything else applies for eligibility.

The only thing that makes me nervous is that the fact that I have had a loan in default makes me question whether I would be able to get another full time student loan.

Anyone out there that have gone through rehabilitation get a new student loan or would anyone know the answer to my question?

SFS NB is unable to tell me and they say just apply in May and well tell you then which I will obviously do, but there is a lot of things I need to do and pay for prior to May and going to university and if I can not even get a SL, then there is no point so that is why I am trying to find out now.

Any help is appreciated!

THat is something that you will have to ask the student loan system, either NSLSC or the department of education and NB student loans.
