Topic: How to choose a trustee? Posted: 21/July/2010 at 12:29pm |
|
Hi:
I've heard so many stories about trustees trying to push for consumer proposal. I'm in the process of choosing a bankruptcy trustee that works with integrity and works for the best interests of their clients. It's so hard to choose nowadays with conflicts of interests, ... etc.
Please help with your experience and / or recommendations. I reside in T.O. area in Ontario.
Thx, Jc

It's a saturated market. They are all in it for themselves. You should contact a credit counselling organization. They have very unique relationships with bankruptcy firms. They make recommendations.

I took the bankruptcy route. My accountant recommended a trustee, whom I emailed my situation to. When I met with an associate they said my only option (and to save me more grief and money in the long run) was to go the bankruptcy route.
I'm not too sure why they are pushing more for a consumer proposal in most instances. I suppose it depends on ones situation and whether they have anything to put collateral against.
Um... If you would like the name of the trustee I am with, I could give it to you. They are in Toronto. I just don't know how to through this site privately.

Consumer proposals are more lucrative for the bankruptcy group. Seriously. Their profits are much greater. How much did you actually dump into the consumer proposal?

I didn't dump anything into a consumer proposal. I filed for bankruptcy.

So.... Johnny, how do I inform jcvd of the trustee I am with, without posting it for all to see? Is there any way you or Mark could pass each of us our emails privately? Or would we need to converse through you?

You would have to contact Mark and ask him to do that.

John does not have access to Canadastudentdebt members info i.e. emails etc. Only I have that as site admin and that info is not given out to anyone without explicit permission.
If both of you contact me at webmaster@canadastudentdebt.ca I can pass on the info. There is no communication feature cause collectors often disguise themselves as members and end up harassing members.

The yellow pages advertise an abundant supply of bankruptcy trustees. All bankruptcy trustees perform the same service. Bankruptcy is not something that has any uniquness to it. It is performed by thousands across Canada all in the same manner.

Mark,
I emailed you the other day as well as responded to your e-mail requesting the info. I hope you recieved it.
Johnny,
You are right in that all bankruptcy trustee's perform the same service. People skills aren't always at the top of their lists. The trustee I am with has been very kind and sympathetic and takes the time to answer my questions. I have done and continue to do my research regarding my situation and I constantly ask reassurance from them about my situation regarding all the "what-if's" and they take the time to let me know what happens during a "what-if" and how we would overcome it together, looking at what their stance is on behalf of the creditor and Federal Government.
