This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Good news!!!!  fellow CSL debtors.  Bill C -12 finally was passed today and received Royal Accent by GG in the Senate.  My question is how long to I have to wait before filing bankruptcy.  My end of period study date is April 1999 and if I read between the lines correctly the amendements contained in C - 12 is to reduce the 10 year period in 146(1)(g) to seven years.  Any thoughts when I should file my assignment.

If you are clearly unable to pay anthing toward your student loan(s), and can demonstrate that you will not ever be able to repay the loan, go visit a trustee and tell them your story. Just make sure that you get something tangible that states you will be discharged (absolute). Remember, the Canada student loans program  can oppose, and they they usually do. There s no such thng as a guarantee on a discharge with student loans.

Solve Student Debt specializes in solutions for students and graduates in student loan default, and those at risk of defaulting.

What effect does this have on events in the past--I would expect pretty much none. That's the usual thing.

BTW, I have sent you mail, but as I don't yet have documentation in my hands (my daughter sent it, but the Xmas post is slow). I don't want those people at ARC doing something impetuous in the meantime. I am uneasy as I have not had another call from them--odd behaviour for those kind of people.

I have to say it would be *wonderful* if this legislation was of any benefit to my case.
