This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I won't go too deep into the details but, near the beginning of 2005 my wife applied for IR and recieved the confirmation letter stating expiry was August, 2005... 6 months later she reapplies for IR and is then informed, over the course of 3 months, that IR was never approved and the loan was now in collections.  ?????????

After another month of badgering I finally managed to get them to admit that what I was looking at was a typo and interest (and bad credit reports) had been accumilating since.  After too much work from my end the file was sent back from collections.. While attempting to apply for a revision of terms we were informed that interest must first be paid.. WHY should we pay for someone elses mistake????  Because nobody would put it in writing that they F#$%^& up...

I am being told that it is impossiible to have the credit reports reversed and that interest will continue to accrue.

Starting to wonder if I should make some sort of an offer to pay half the interest and see if they will bite.. As for the bad credit rating she has received over this, I am at a complete loss.. How can they screw a young family over like this??? I am currently on a LTD and my wife works as a casual (not full-time hours). 2 8 year old twins and an 11 year old make it extremly difficult in BC without credit. EVERYONE LOOKS AT YOUR CREDIT RATING NOW!

Unfortunately, I myself had to declare bankruptcy 4 years ago and do not expect any good on my rating for another 6 years,

Advice needed PLEASE!!!!!
