This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I am wondering if anyone has had this problem and how or if it can be resolved. They have a lean on my taxes now for the past three years, but this year I desperatly need this money. I am a single mother of 3, on EI, with bills up to my neck. Can someone give me  some info on this process of getting a lean removed from my taxes?

hope I can help I had this same problem you can apply for a Lean Assesment what I did was call Revnue Canada and told them I wanted to apply for this Lean Assesment and they asked me a few questions in regards to my income and expenses and you qualify if you can not make ends meet. I suggust before you call write out all your income and expenses such as food, rent, bills, clothing, car, car insurance, childrens stuff etc. they will then tell you wether you qualify to apply for this and tell you what you need to do like write a letter telling them why you need your income tax money back and copy's like proff of income, proff of rent and bills etc now such things as food and cloths you do ot need proof of since you can'y really show them what you spent. so try this and I hope it helps it takes a while like 6-8 weeks for a response. Now they did denie me saying I was not in hardship and here I am on maternity E/I getting 50% of my normal income which I assure you is not much and I have 2 kids so I do not know what hardship is but it is worth a try.Good Luck!!!
