This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I have recently been contacted by CBV re OSL from 98.  I have a letter of FUll and Final Release from Allied International re my Royal bank loan from 98 that acknowledges payment and "forever discharges" me from monies owed from my RB student loan account.  I have faxed the release to Collections Mgmt Unit (Vijay) recently and am still waiting for a reply.

Does anyone know how to get the CA off my back?

In Sept 97 I stopped paying on my loans because I was in school full time and completing some final exams which I finished in Dec.  In Jan. 98 I was contacted by AIC re my student loans with Royal Bank.  They harassed me for about 2 months (1-3 calls per day at home).  I offered to settle and paid them.  THey gave me a FUll and Final Release which stated

"that the Royal Bank Student Loans...in consideration of settlement and payment of $3,000.00...forever discharges [me]...of all actions, causes of action, claims and demands which Royal Bank Student Loans and it's respective administrators, successors or assigns hereafter can, shall or may have by reason of, relating to or arising out of Royal Bank Student Loans Account".

About a year later I received a letter from OSL saying that RB has applied for the guaranteed portion.  I spoke to someone at OSL who said they would get back to me and never did.  I never contacted them again (why poke the bear?).  I figured that since RB applied for relief after the Release was signed, I was free and clear of any demands by OSL.  Let OSL and RB duke it out.

Any thoughts?

Another call from CBV.  I had a message on my machine on Friday from J.L. to call a 1-888 number re an "urgent business matter".  Called on Sat and discovered it was CBV.

I received another call today from J.L.  I asked if she was the one who left Friday's obscure message without identifying her company. She denied calling and leaving a message on Friday.  Then triumphantly asked how I knew it was CBV.  "Because I called the number on the weekend con artist." was my eloquent response.  We argued over whether I should be responding to her questions or if she should be talking to OSL.  I told her I was reporting her company to Consumer affairs for harassment and then I hung up.

Are all CA employees masochists?  They push and push until you can't take it.
