This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

    Posted: 17/February/2005 at 8:52pm

I just completed our Consumer proposal in May of 2004.  Since then I have tried to contact HRDC collections to repay the remaining on my CSL but have received no replies to my mail or voice mail left with various departments.  I graduated in June 1995 and I just want to know how should I deal with this. I know the loan was turned over to them from the bank because I received a Statement of Student Loan interest paid from them last year and the year before.

I have read many other horror stories about collections etc, but it seems they don't want my money.  Anyone else had similar trouble?  I just want to know how to proceed. I have given the credit bureaus the certificate of completion and it has been reflected but I don't need a bad debt now to destroy what I am slowly trying to rebuild.

Thanks in advance

Tim

I don't know what people are worried about.

It's all relative.

Some people think that Canada, should be
the kingdom of Heaven while they are breathing
and living.

Most people who founded Canada, were vassals
and serfs of kings, noblemen, businessmen
and nobodies, who had nothing on their backs
than a shirt when they came over from Ireland,
the UK, France, Germany, Holland, Sweden, or
wherever 300 years ago or less.

In the past 100 years in Canada, people get free
TV, health care, school, unemployment insurance
payments, job retraining, museums, art displays,
libraries, sports facilities, etc.

What more could you want ?

In China, billions of citizens have migrated
from the countryside, where they had no shower,
bath, electricity, radio, TV, dish cleaner, clothes
washing machining, drier or microwaver. They will
probably die in their 40's making $1 per day
as they toil in a factory making Plasma TV's
for people on welfare in Canada, USA, France and
Germany, for example, working live slaves. They
don't complain.

It's all relative. Oxygen is still free to breath,
water free to drink, and bathrooms free to urinate
and defecate.

The end of the world is not tomorrow, even through
Ronald Reagan said he would being b0mbing Russia
in 5 minutes, back in 1984 or whatnot.

 Tred,

 1) Call your bankruptcy trustee who administered your consumer and have them provide you with a statement of acoc**t showing all of the monies paid toward the CSL.

 2) Call HRDC at 888-819-2516 and advise them that you have completed your consumer proposal under  bankruptcy and insolvency, and you would like to resume paying as there is a residue after the proposal was finished.

The HRDC has your account because collection agencies are not permitted to hold accounts with a bankruptcy involved.  If they say that they do not have it, ask them for the location of it. If they cannot tell you even where it is, then that tells you something, now doesn't it?

Overall, you sahould have your trustee in bankruptcy do this for you. afterall, you just paid a large amount of money for this service. The least they can do is find your residual debt that you still owe.

The two words that I seem to have the greatest difficulty in spelling onthis site are "colector" and "acoc**t".
