This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Welcome to the world of collection agency liars.
Been there and done that.
Yes, they lie, and when questioned about it, lie even more.
Personally, not much can be done about it.

I had collectors call my friends, family, neighbors, and payroll dept.
When I questioned them, they said they didn't. And I was in the office next to the accountant and I heard it all.
I even called the consumer protection agency with the Justice Dept. and put in a complaint.
They came back and said that the believe the collection agency did nothing wrong.
SO if you are feeling that it is you against the world.
It is.
I am sorry to say.

I did put in a complaint to the RBC who held the loan, and I did get an apology from them.
I would call up the bank who holds the loan, each bank has an Ombudsman Dept. Write them a written complaint to them.

Good luck
Sorry for not being so uplifting, but I have been going thru the same sh*t for years, and it does not get much better.

On the home page there is a tab at the top of the page named Student Loan Information---go there---then go to Filing Complaints.

There is a wealth of information there to help you file a compaint!

Let us know how you do!

I was also going to suggest that you talk to Johnny.
He will take care of all the collectors.
He did for me, and he can for you.
It has been many moons since anyone has called, harassed, or threatened me.

AH!!
Thanks to my guard dog!!!

I will call and complaint them for sure tomorrow! They called my mother today, and they did the same thing again.... they even faxed the amount that I owe and asked my mother to pay them..... and I can show them the fax as a proof!  My parents can't speak any English, they found someone that speak our language and talked to them!

I don't want to pay the collection agency now even if I have the money.... coz I really don't think I should pay someone that harrassed my family.... I would like to pay HRDC or the government instead, can I do that?

If your loan is with HRDC, file a complaint with them about your rights being violated. Make sure you have documented proof and perhaps the names of the agents.

I called the ministry and file a complaint.  I also got a call from the supervisor of the collection agency, he promised that it would not happen again.

Well, I hope that would settle this issue for now......

I finally had in touch with HRDC, they said my account is in collection, I can only talk to the collection agency.....
