This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Hello,

I have CSL and also provincial loan and they are both in collection.  I have been paying both, but I don't make enough money to make a payment that makes a difference on these loans, they are not going down.  Now ACR is after me to pay it in full, saying that the payment plan that I had with them was temporary and that I did agree to that (I do not remember telling them that I agreed to pay this debt, when the time came that they wanted me to, but basically that's what they are telling me)  ACR calls has called me at least 3 times in the past 2 weeks wanting to know updates and such.  They are saying that I should find a co signer and get rid of this debt at once or else they will sue, garnish etc....   I got fed up and told them that I can't find a co signer, screamed at the gentleman and told him that if he took time to listen to what he was saying he would realize that he is not making sense one bit.  He was not the person I was suppose to contact, but when they left the message, I got stressed out and we've had a death in the family and I was definitely in no shape for added stress and I thought by contacting them and finding what they want, that it would help reduce my stress, boy was I wrong.  I have never missed 1 payment with these guys in 1 1/2.  I cannot deal with them.. I am reading about Johnny and how he is helping all these people, but I am in ontario and he is in nova scotia so I am wondering if he could help.

Please help me regain my peace of mind and sanity.

Sinjun

johnny can help regardless of what province you are in.

from what i have read arc cannot do squat to you except take your file back to the bank and suggest to them that they sue, garnish etc.  only the bank can initiate these actions against you, and only if it is worth their while - ie you make great money, have assets that are cashable, owe big time money etc.  the collection agencies love to threaten but cannot follow it up.  the banks rarely pursue legal action since it costs them too much money.

i suggest you relax, take a deep breath and email or call johnny on monday.  he is a miracle worker for those who can afford to pay on their loans and can reduce your stress.  guaranteed.  granted there is a fee for his services but from what i have read it is well worth it.

good luck and keep us posted

Relax, getting all twisted up about it will just make you ill.if you were making payments regularly and have been for a while and you need to reduce your payment then reduce it period. They have to accept what you give them.if you nolonger wish to talk to them on the phone send a letter(registered)to the company telling them you want no further verbal contact with them anymore, wriiten correspondance only. They have to stop contacting you by phone.i did havent had one phone call since my letter was delivered and accepted. If you are giving them something each month you cant be referred for justice, and they cannot ask you to borrow from other sources. They have rules and guidelines they need to follow (although rarely do)your upper hand is get educated on CA laws.trust me these are things youll want to keep by your phone.good luck

Thanks Scotia,

I am relaxing a bit now, although I have to endure the nagging, of the person calling once or twice a week, depending on how they feel   I have also sent an email to johnny and I was supposed to discuss my situation with him tonight, but I haven't heard from him, so either I misunderstood the email he sent, or something came up.  I have to say that this place is a fountain of knowledge .

See ya later

You don't have to endure it.

Tell them clearly (tape the call) that you want all correspondence to be in writing. Then start logging the calls. That'll give you a little clout when you want to push back. They think that the law doesn't apply to them. They are only partly right.

The law applies to them...it's just that law enforcement people won't defend your rights under the law because they think you're a deadbeat scumbag WITHOUT rights. You have to have an airtight case and then hold their feet to the fire to get any help.

What? Me, worry?
