This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Grrr...I had such a bad experience with the National Student Loan Service Center today. I had tryed applying for Interest Relief again, just to "see". I realized that myself and my husband made a little less due to taking some time off in the months of May and June so I decided to try reapplying for IR again. I did what they asked, filled out the form and supplied proof of income for both May and June and an estimate for the month of July (as usual). I have done this before, many times, so I know what's required.

Well, I faxed the paperwork a week ago and called today and to check up on the application. The agent I spoke too was very rude, and said that I have to also provide proof of income for July. When I questioned this (because obviously I can't provide pay stubs for a month I haven't finished working yet) she became very defensive and said that I may have gotten "away" with this in the past but I would not now. I mentioned to her that I have been getting IR since 2000 and I have never had to attempt to supply proof of income for the month I'm applying for IR. She then started threating me by saying she was going to look into my file as I may have been granted IR in error and I would be responsible for the interest. (Um? wouldn't that be their fault for approving my application?). I couldn't believe I was being threatened by this person for no reason. My loans are still in good standing! I was so ticked off. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and she freaked on me for even requesting such a thing. Funny thing was this "supervisor" refused to give me anything other than his first name.  It was very odd to me.

So I guess I won't be getting IR after all, because July is a 5 week month and I get paid weekly. I'm sure most of you know what that means when it comes to IR applications.

Just had to vent. I just don't know how this is considered "customer service". Any other business would never treat a customer this way.
