This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

On the main page I did some number crunching...

basically, if you make over $25,000 you dont qualify for interest relief...

If you owe $60,000 and make over $33,000 then you dont qualify. So the debt reduction program is a joke too!

Lets see... 33,000 *.70 = 23100 net per year, or approximately 1925 per month. Subtract 600 for rent, 200 for food, 100 for utilities, you have 1025 - 700 for your loan payment... =275 a month for savings, your car, gas, insurance etc, and any ... not much!

...and those are some pretty modest expenses you listed. 200 for food...hmm...KD, anyone? 600 for rent...does the carpet smell like pee, by any chance? 100 for utilities...break out the parka for the winter, your looking at this site on a friend's internet connection.

mmmmmmmm...feels good to be educated. I think I'll vote Liberal this time around.

How about if your income is a bit under $900 per month for a single parent with one child? I'll leave it to you to do the math.. Now much do I have left for SL payments? I tried paying $50 a month for a while but finally had to opt for eating instead and I felt a whole lot better!

I need more than interest relief every month just to manage living. Thank God for some friends who help out occasionally.. Don't want your KD.. we'll be glad to take it..  Got any day old bread or food in your freezer you think is too old to eat?  We'll take that too! Where's my pride? I'm too damn poor to to even think of that. I'm just glad I don't live in the big city where it is expensive to live!

My thank to the government of Canada for their part for helping to screw up my life! They have grants for most every thing.. but it goes to people and businesses that already have money.. My SL is so small that it is fair to say the government would have saved money by writing it off... but no... not them, they spent more money on having people harass me and paying lawyers to take me to court.. Being poor I couldn't go to court to defend myself.. no money for lawyers or transportation.. To me the whole thing is a farce.. I didn't even have a sling shot to fight back!

Someone wake me up when Canada adopts the principles of human rights they try so hard to force on governments of other countries! Maybe our politicians think they smell better but they don't. It's time they start cleaning up the crap in their own closets before pointing fingers at others! Start treating your Canadians citizens fairly!

Casey . . .
