This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

My cousin called me today to tell me this lady from Moncton, NB called there for me...apparently they were asking about whether or not I was employed, what my marital status was and what my financial situation was. I can only assume it's collectors because I've been avoiding them... but can they do this??

This is getting absolutely worse for me, I dread hearing the telephone ring...I don't answer the phone anymore and have turned to my 12 year old daughter to screen my calls from the dreaded 'collector's'. I've gone to my doctor because of my depression and have found out that I have high blood pressure which has been causing me to feel ill as well. I can't keep making myself sick.

I've told the collectors repeatedly that I'm on assistance and cannot afford to pay as I have 3 children and a disabled bf at home that I have to feed and take care of with what I receive a month. Why don't they want to understand that I'm not receiving tons of money that I can just do whatever they want to pacify them.

I wish I could just go to sleep and never wake up from this horrible nightmare called sl debt! It's ruining my life I don't want to get up anymore, I can't face telephone calls, my children need me and I'm becoming an emotional wreck. I don't know how much longer I can carry on like this.

The last time I talked to them the collection agency A.R.C. told me that they could put a lien against my home and force the sale of it, it worried me sick to the point that right now I don't care...I don't know what will happen to the money I owe the mortgage to, but I can't pay it if I'm not living here. I guess I'll just wallow in my sl debt hell   .

I apologize for carrying on so...I needed to get this out of my mind and somewhere else.

worried,

take a deep breath and step back from the situation.

1. you have 3 kids and boyfriend who love and need you ( awesome)

2. your home is safe they cant take it or force you to sell it.

3. if the collectors are to hard to handle there are people who can help like Johnny at cfw group.

4. they cant get blood from a stone they know it and you know it.if collectors call 100 times a day and you cannot pay.... dont pay! live your life, they will and so will the bankers.

Johnny at cfw group can and will help, financially and emotionally, he is incredible at resolving situations like yours I know first hand. he can make it so you have managable payments that fit what ever budget you have, he will make it so collectors stop calling all together, he can help you set up budgets, counsel you in credit repair, emotional counseling. he does it all.

his services do cost money, but total peace of mind is worth it, I understand from your post you are struggling financaly but his costs are very minimal, and are well worth their weight in gold.

IF you have any questions regarding johnny or anything else please fell free to contact me

Yes, contacting Johnny would be your best option.
I wish I would have known him years ago, when I was being pulled by the collectors in every which way.
Collectors threaten, we all know that, but this site will help you understand what they can and can't do.

You have to take care of number one which is you and your bf and family. You are already blessed with people who love and need you. That is most important to you.
I have been there when they call and call and call. I know it is hard but you have to drown them out. Personally,I would like to drown them, but that is another issue.
Don't let them make you a prisoner of your own home, your personal space, tell them that you are not in a position to pay and tell them that you will be contacting the police or who ever because what they are doing is harassment, and you do not have to put up with that crap.
Take it from one who knows, cuz I have been there.

Good luck, and keep on smiling

Thanks cargo1 and hunter it really does help knowing I'm not alone...but unfortunately it does nothing for the anxiety and depression I'm suffering from. I guess we all learn from our mistakes and this one being the worse one I've ever made.

I'll try and keep my chin up no matter how hard it gets there should be a light at the end of this tunnel somewhere...I hope.
