This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

Okay, I'll try and make this as short and to the point as possible!

I have a double citizenship: Romanian and Canadian.

I will be graduating in one year from high school, and would like to attend Cass Business School in London.

Now, the English Government can provide me with a tuition fee loan, but not a maintenance loan since I am not a citizen of the UK. I am in need of $9,000 to pay for accommodation and living expenses if I am to be studying in London, and my parents can not provide me with any money.

What options do I have here? Can I get a student loan from the Canadian Government and use it to study in the UK? Can I get any sort of loan without having a job (getting one is not an option) ?

Thanks in advance.

Abandon hope all ye who enter into student loan agreements.

You're best to take a year or two, work yer butt off, then go over on your own dollar....borrowing from the government is tantamount to selling yourself into slavery and dooming yourself to a good 15 years of woe (if you're lucky).

You should go through this site and read the stories--read about everyone who had the best of intentions when they graduated and then fell on hard luck, or ended up with health issues, or had family issues, or any number of things that are just a part of life.....read about how our tax refunds get ripped from the starving mouths of our children, how we, and our families and friends, get harrassed at all hours, how we get angry calls at work, how we get berrated and debased, insulted and lied to ....take a look at how thousands of us have had our credit reports trashed, how we can barely qualify for even a Canadian Tire card and, even then, at exhorbitant rates...read how we get our wages ripped from our hands, keeping us in substandard housing with vehicles that are held together with a pair of nylons and a prayer IF we are even able to have a vehicle at all...read how we chase our loans from collection agency to collection agency, never being given a straight answer, being promised reductions in our debt only to be told later that no such thing exists...read about the drugs we have to take for our anxiety and depression, our feelings of worthlessness and apathy toward the future, our inability to retire, our fears of homelessness....

You may think I'm exaggerating....go through the site. It doesn't happen to all of us, but it happens to enough for even the most inattentive person to notice that this is a HUGE problem.

And if you intend to take out loans then move to Romania when you've finished your education, then you are part of the problem and the reason why I curse George Washington Carver, inventor of peanut butter--often my only meal for weeks on end.

Think about it.
