This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

I just received an Evaluation of Customer's Financial Status request statement from this collection agency.  Some time ago I also received a statement from the CRA that they would be keeping my tax returns to cover my provincial debt.  They listed EOS/NCN as a contact number.
I am being asked to sign an acknowledgment of the debt, on the second page, where no dollar amount is stated.  The amount owed is stated on the first page.  The acknowledgement is on the second page with no dollar amount listed.  Furthermore, it makes no reference to debt owed to the province.  It only sais Student Loan Default.  Because I believe the Canada Student Loan is statute barred, I am afraid to sign this document because I am unsure what it is that I am signing.  If the amount, who I owed and acknowledgement were all on the same page, I wouldn't have an issue with it.  However, no mention of province, and amount and signature on different pages, leaves me rather worried.

Am I being excessively paranoid?

And when I question them about it they refuse to send me anything different.  The page requiring my signature has nothing.  No amount. No province.  It only sais: I purpose a monthly payment of $______ towards my outstanding debt comencing _________ and acknowledge that it is oweed and that repayment offer is subject to review in six months.

She then goes on to tell me that there is no staute of limitations on student loan debt owed to Canada.
