This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities have been forced to cancel programs and layoff hundreds if not thousands of full-time and contract instructors.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment.

well, you need to have a full time job to qualify

These programs are quite useless ---i have a criminal record so no one will hire me and i cant get my debt lowered so i can have lower payments

whats the point in disqualifying very very poor people like me ?

I dont plan on bankruptcy ---im pretty sure single people wont have their loans discharge, even after ten years.

Stupid country---no jobs, criminal record so im not allowed to work, and i  dont qualify for any programs to make my payments more reasonable

can anyone explain to me how you pay a 25, 000 dollar student loans making minimum wage or less ?

Nago...I don't think you need a full time job to qualify....

*from momof2's link*

Eligibility Criteria

  • The borrower must have exhausted all available interest relief.
  • The borrower must have a repayment period of at least 15 years.
  • 60 months (five years) must have passed since the borrower's most recent Period of Study End Date (PESD).
  • The borrower's loan must be in good standing.
  • The borrower must demonstrate that he/she has an income stream to support the post-reduction payment (ability to pay will be based on family income).

Your income has to be able to support the reduced payments...for some that may mean a part time job.

You pay like the rest of us...when things take a turn in the right direction--for some of us it has been years!!!

You could always try selling the 400 pound gorilla if Johnny gives you one
