A few years ago I posted here saying my BC loans were forgiven, which were really quite easy.

But I still had about $45k federal loans, and after reading all the failed applications I was afraid to send it off.  Then student loans started taking my GST/HST refund, and when you are living on disability in BC you really need that extra income to survive.

Also since my problems are episodic to a degree, and I have been doing fairly well lately I wanted to try working part time, but.. I was afraid student loans would step in and interfere.

To be approved I think it really does matter if you have a good doctor that really wants to help you.  In August I was approved.  I also started working part time in January, hopefully my health will keep up.  I was honest with my doctor 100%.

With the loan I had I was better off not trying and just living on Disability, Before, even after earning my maximum potential, with minimum payments, I probably would have been living in a cardboard box.

In the long run I think the govt made the right choice even IF I manage to become employed full time in the future, and perhaps will no longer need disability assistance.  Because I now have a sense that there is hope for a better life.

But I shouldn't get ahead of myself, it has only been a week since I started working part time.

But in any event, my student loans are gone.  It just took me about 10 years to have the courage to apply to get rid of them.

Great to hear you've  received some relief. It really sucks being sick and I know I feel hopeless myself sometimes. I have no kidneys and am on dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant and it's been 8 years.
