The Hardship Kit has been mention in forum posts but without giving details. (Thank you, Johnny for mentioning this.) I can say it does work. It may or may not turn out the same for you. The Hardship Kit as it is called is a set of forms used for many situations dealing with Canada Student Loans. What is special is what it can do for you. It is for people who are experiencing real difficulties in repaying their Student Loan. It consists of a cover letter, a summary list of documents required,
plus 5 pages of form to fill out, (may not all apply).
These forms are: Education & Employment Information, Financial Questionnaire, Medical Certificate and one to support having no income. You should be sure to provide very complete and through information, along with documentation to support your hardship. How it works will depend on your situation. It can help until your financial position changes or could last indefinitely if you can prove that things will never improve (eg disability).
Your loan is not forgiven but can be removed from collection giving you financial and mental relief. Your situation could still be subject to future review. As with most things dealing with CSLs there is no information, readily available, on exactly how things work.<P>You may have to submit your application more than once. Don't let this discourage you! Also, your Member of Parliament and/or their local office can help you and facilitate speeding up the process. If they try to put you off, tell them that other MPS are helping their constituents. Expect and get their help - they work for you!
If you have a legitimate claim of hardship, you deserve this help.. insist on getting it!Good luck & don't give up!
